Auditions for Chorale are open to students, faculty, and staff. As Chorale is a non-auditioned ensemble, this “audition” is really more of a chance for me to meet you, get a feel for your voice, and place you in the appropriate section. Those interested in singing in Chorale should be prepared to sing several basic vocal exercises to determine range and facility.
Auditions for Chamber Singers are open to all students. Singers should come to auditions with a solo piece prepared (an accompanist will be provided). Classical art songs or arias are strongly preferred, however a folk-song arrangement or selection from musical theater is also acceptable. In addition, please be prepared to perform basic sight reading and exercises geared towards assessing your aural skills. Those enrolled in Chamber Singers must also be concurrently enrolled in Chorale.
Auditions for Chamber Singers and basic vocal placement for Chorale take place the first two days of classes, fall term. All prospective members must sign up for a time with Dr. Wells in Langroise, 100-N. Sign-up sheets will be posted 2-3 days before classes start. Students are expected to enroll for three consecutive terms (fall, winter, and spring); contact Dr. Wells for eligible exceptions. If you missed the fall audition, and still wish to participate in choir, please contact Dr. Wells.
