Department of English
The English Department teaches students to read critically, to write competently, and to research a topic accurately. Within the Department, students may pursue special interests in literature, linguistics, creative writing, or English teaching. Independent studies and internships offer opportunities for the exploration of intellectual problems related to the study of English. A variety of internships in local business and agencies are available to English majors. There are also on-campus opportunities (newspaper, literary magazine) through which students can acquire practical experience.
Within the Department, there are research and employment opportunities. Interdisciplinary courses, cultural field trips, and work with professional writers enrich the curriculum.
