Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA)
Due Date: mid-October and rolling deadlines. Faculty contact person: Prof. Jeff Snyder, History Dept. Freeman-ASIA support undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning on studying overseas in East or Southeast Asia. Freeman-ASIA Award recipients are expected to share their experiences with their home campuses to encourage study abroad in Asia and greater understanding of Asian peoples. All levels of undergraduates may apply.
Gilman International Scholarship Program
Due Date: early Oct. and April. Faculty contact person: Prof. Jeff Snyder, History Dept. Academic study abroad for undergraduates who are receiving Pell Grants and especially students under-represented in foreign studies: those in fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities. (2007-2008 due dates: October 7, 2007 for Spring Semester, April 15, 2008 for Fall Semester).
National Security Education Program
Due date: early November (application preparation and on-campus review). Faculty contact person: Prof. Jeff Snyder, History Dept. NSEP Scholarships support foreign language and cultural, scientific, social and humanistic studies at the undergraduate level in many African, Asian, Central European and Latin American countries. Recipients must demonstrate academic excellence, commitment to international education, language interest and aptitude and provide a specific plan of study. All levels of undergraduates may apply. (2007-08 due date: Feb. 12, 2008 final application).

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships in Science, Math and Engineering
Due date: early-December faculty contact. Faculty contact person: Prof. Mark Lotspeich, Mathematics Dept. Sophomore and junior students pursuing a bachelor's degree in the natural sciences or mathematics and intending to earn a graduate degree in this field and pursue a career in research and/or college level teaching are eligible to apply. Students may not apply directly for the scholarship but must be nominated by their institution. (2007-08 due date: application deadline: January 31, 2008)

Harry S. Truman Scholarships
Due date: early February (on-campus contact). Faculty contact person: Prof. Jasper LiCalzi, Dept. of Political Economy. Truman Scholarships support advanced degree study with a strong public service orientation. Applicants must generally demonstrate outstanding public service activity and ambition (especially as demonstrated through campus and community volunteer work). Students may not apply directly but must be nominated by their institution. Juniors and (third year) Seniors are eligible. (2007-08 due date: institutional nomination received by Feb. 5, 2008).

Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program
Due date: early February. Faculty contact person: Prof. Chris Walser, Department of Biology, Environmental Studies Program.. The Hollings Scholarship Program provides support for undergraduate students with an interest in ‘‘hands-on''/ practical educational training experience in NOAA-related science (oceanic and atmospheric), research, technology, policy, management, and education activities. It provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to a maximum of $8,000 per year) for full-time study during the 9-month academic year; a 10-week, full-time internship position ($650/week) during the summer at a NOAA facility; and, if reappointed, academic assistance (up to a maximum of $8,000) for full-time study during a second 9-month academic year. (2007-8 due date: February 8, 2008).
Morris K. Udall Scholarships
Due date: nominations received by early March. Faculty contact person: Prof. Jasper LiCalzi, Dept. of Political Economy. Sophomores and juniors with excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in, and potential for, careers in the fields of environmental public policy, health care, and tribal public policy may apply for this undergraduate scholarship. (2007-08 due date: institutional nomination received by March 4, 2008).
Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships
Due date: mid-March. Faculty contact person: Prof. Wally Lonergan, Business Dept. Scholars serve as ambassadors abroad while studying for one academic year in any country where Rotary Clubs are located. Preference is given to those with fluency in language of the host country (non-English speaking). All class levels are eligible to apply, but Seniors conducting graduate level study are preferred. Applicants must apply through a local Rotary Club during the spring semester. Nominations made by local Rotary Clubs. (2008 due date: March 15).
Rotary World Peace Scholarships
The Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution offer individuals committed to peace and cooperation the opportunity to pursue a two-year master's level degree or certificate in international studies, peace studies, and conflict resolution at one of the university partners. In the USA: Duke University, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and The University of California, Berkeley. Through the partnership between the Rotary Foundation and these universities, 70 Rotary World Peace Scholarships are offered on a competitive basis annually for study at the Rotary Centers. Applicants must contact a local Rotary club to determine local application deadlines.
