p Day 2005: Making the p Chain

People made links representing the digits in p.  Each number is represented by a color:

  • 0=Brown
  • 1=Purple
  • 2=Yellow
  • 3=Orange
  • 4=Pink
  • 5=Light Blue
  • 6=Green
  • 7=Magenta
  • 8=Dark Blue
  • 9=Red

Thus, the chain begins 3.14... Orange Black (for the single decimal) Purple Pink...

Retired Math Professor Les Tanner made the first link (in honor of his infamous bright orange hat) in 2004. Now retired Chemistry Professor Terry Nagel made the single black decimal link. In 2004, 52 links were added. In 2005, another 202 links were made bringing the total length of the chain to 254 links!
