David Johnson

David Wayne Johnson, viola; principal viola Ft. Wayne Philharmonic, Iceland National Symphony, Ravinia (Chicago) Festival Orchestra, Freimann String Quartet and the Grant Park (Chicago) Symphony. Applied viola, violin and music theory, music appreciation.

Mr. Johnson came to Idaho in February 1992 after eight years as Principal Violist and founding member of the Freimann String Quartet with the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic in Indiana. He has also played with the Ravinia Festival Orchestra in Chicago and currently plays Assistant Principal Viola in the Grant Park Symphony in Chicago during the summers.

A native of Crystal Lake, Illinois, he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Performance from Indiana University in Bloomington. While in college, Mr. Johnson played with a quintet in New York at Carnegie Recital Hall. In 1980, he served as principal violist for the Iceland National Symphony.

David Johnson is an original member of the Langroise Trio and an instructor at The College of Idaho. He also is Assistant Principal Violist and frequent soloist with the Boise Philharmonic.

In March of 1993, Mr. Johnson performed the Walton Viola Concerto with the Boise Philharmonic and in April of 1995, he performed Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with Susan Demetris Dundon and the orchestra. On 19th and 20th February 1999, Mr. Johnson and Geoffrey Trabichoff will perform the Sinfonia Concertante with the Boise Philharmonic.

David lives with his three sons in Caldwell.
