The The College of Idaho Vocal
Jazz Ensemble is a select award-winning group of singers and instrumentalists.
Directed by Dr. Marianne Saunders, the group is in high demand for performances on campus and
off. The group specializes in classic jazz favorites, much in the style
of Manhattan Transfer, capitalizing on the expertise of the student soloists.
Each singer uses their own microphone and the rhythm section is comprised
of piano, upright acoustic bass, drumset, and guitar. This group has
traveled with the CofI Choral Department to Ireland, England, Canada, San Francisco,
and Salt Lake City.
AWARDS & DISTINCTIONS:
The CofI Vocal Jazz
Ensemble was invited to perform at the 6th Annual Vocal Jazz Festival at
Carnegie Hall in New York City, April 1, 2002. CofI student Kristen
Peters was selected to sing a solo with the festival conductor to close
the show. The group was invited to reappear in April 2004, and was
able to perform at the 8th Annual Vocal Jazz Festival at Carnegie Hall
where the group received a standing ovation. Two CofI students,
Corrina Watson and Kristyn Price, were chosen to sing solos on selections
directed by the festival conductor, Phil Mattsen.

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble is an upbeat,
high-energy group, which is a joy to hear, and a delight to experience.
