Student Host Technical Manual for Langroise Recital Hall
Music Department at The College of Idaho

  1. Lights will operate from either of the wall panels located backstage or in the Control Booth or the light board, but not both simultaneously
    1. Backstage/Control booth wall panels  - use the platform lights for rehearsals whenever possible and save the audience spots for performances.  The platform push switch from back stage is temporarily broken, so once you turn this on, you’ll have to use the pre-programmed push button to turn these off or the off button on the panel in the Control Booth.
    2. Light board in Control Booth – Be sure that the wall light panels are off.  Turn down all sliders, then turn on the board from the switch in the back.  Sliders are labeled, but give yourself some advance time to figure it out.
    3. Generally you’ll simply need to find the appropriate lighting level for the stage and then bring audience levels up and down to signal beginning and end.
    4. If entire banks of lights are mysteriously unavailable in the Recital Hall, then call Security and ask then to let you into LAN 211 (second floor, just left of the men’s restroom across from the elevator.)  Walk in, turn left, last large panels on the right, flip to “on” any breaker switches that are “off.”

  1. Curtains.  Use sparingly and avoid if possible.  If you must draw the curtains, be sure to avoid the acoustic shells. There is always the chance that you won’t be able to open the curtain again.

  1. Acoustic shell.  Work with a partner.  The back/upstage shells cannot be moved forward because they will hit the ceiling sprinklers.  Keep looking up to avoid knocking off a sprinkler head.  If you adjust the shells for a smaller performance area, move the two forward (downstage) shells on either side, again watch overhead constantly.

  1. Sound projection
    1. Microphones, use the AKG 770 in the Control Room drawer
    2. XLR cables are hung on the back wall
    3. Microphone stands, two Garvin are available in the Control Booth

    5. Turn on the wall unit, hold down the start button until the lights pop on
    6. Patch bay – if microphone is plugged into the floor box Stage Right #1, then patch A17 to A25
    7. Operate both the individual slider and the master sliders on the right
    8. Turn off units in reverse order, wall unit first, holding down the start button until the lights pop off individually.  Last turn off the mixer.
