George V. Wolfe Scholarship

Dr. George V. Wolfe founded the Department of Political Economy in 1946. Dr. Wolfe received his law degree from the University of Vienna. After fleeing his native Austria on the eve of World War II in 1939, he served as an in-residence scholar in the Department of Political Science at Yale University before coming to The College of Idaho.

Over a twenty-four year period, many of George Wolfe's students attended outstanding law schools and graduate schools, a tradition that still holds today.  Here is a guide to his papers. George Wolfe also delivered the The First Annual College of Idaho Lecture in the Liberal Arts on April 29, 1970.

The George V. Wolfe Endowed Scholarship is awarded each Spring to an outstanding College of Idaho student for the Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year at The College of Idaho.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, a student must:

• be attending The College of Idaho;
• have a cumulative grade point average of no less than 3.0;
• be majoring either in Political Economy, International Political Economy, History, or Philosophy, or be a bona fide pre-law student majoring in any discipline;
• demonstrate financial need (based on the Financial Aid Form).

 The completed Application Form and a transcript are due by noon on Monday, April 13, 2009 in the Office of the Dean of the College (Administrative Assistant Lori Tollman). This office is on the 4^th floor of Sterry Hall.

Interview

Applicants will be interviewed by a selection committee consisting of representatives of the Political Economy, History, and Philosophy departments, one at-large faculty member and a graduate of the College who is currently practicing law in the Treasure Valley.

Interviews will begin Thursday April 16, 2009 at 3:30 PM in Strahorn 103.
