Scholarships

Scholarships are considered merit-based aid. As the name implies, they are awarded based on achievement, recognition and high academic standing. Scholarship offerings at The College of Idaho include:

The College of Idaho Heritage Scholarship

The College of Idaho Heritage Scholarship will be a $20,300 scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year. Students can renew the scholarship for up to four years if the minimum GPA of 3.25 is maintained and the student participates in at least 20 hours of community service each month.

Qualifications

  1. To be eligible to apply for the Heritage Scholar program a student will need to meet the following academic criteria;
    1. Have 3.85 GPA at the end of their sixth semester in high school and*
    2. Have a minimum of a 31 ACT composite or
    3. Have a minimum of a 1380 on the SAT (Critical Reading and Math)
  2. Each applicant for the Heritage Scholar program will need to complete an application for admission and be accepted at The College of Idaho prior to being invited to come to campus to interview to be a part of the Heritage Scholar Program.
  3. Each applicant will also need to complete an essay of 750-1000 words, describing how a specific experience which you have had in the last few years was beneficial to you or your community.
  4. Each Heritage Scholar candidate will need to have their parents complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Assistance) and make sure the FAFSA information is sent to The College of Idaho. We encourage you to submit the FAFSA as early as possible after January 1st.

Students will need to be accepted for admissions, meet all of the above criteria and be invited to participate in the Heritage Scholar competition. In order for a student to be invited to compete for the Heritage Scholar Program you will need to complete your application for admission, be accepted and submit your Heritage Scholar essay and have all of this completed as early as possible in order to be invited to interview for the scholarship prior to the end of February. All candidates will be reviewed in late February and winners will be announced in early March.

* GPA’s are based on a 4.0 scale and SAT scores are based on the critical reading and math sections of the SAT

Kathryn Albertson Scholarship Competition

The Kathryn Albertson Scholarship Comptetition occurs each November. Students can compete in an academic area of their choosing. They can also choose to compete in the fine arts, such as Theatre, Music or Art. The College awards approximately 30 $10,000 scholarships every year.

Other Scholarships

First Year Students

The College of Idaho offers a variety of scholarships. Talent-based scholarships are available in debate, music, art, theatre and athletics. Students are also eligible for merit-based scholarships based on academic record and test scores.

Transfer Students

Scholarships for transfer students range from the $2,000 The College of Idaho Grant to the $6,000 Presidential Scholarship each year.

International Students

Based on Academic record, international students may qualify for scholarships that range from $8,000 up to $12,000 each year.

Availability

All C of I scholarships are available to both Idaho and non-Idaho residents and most are renewable each year as long as the recipient remains in good standing and maintains the scholarship requirements.  The application for admission and the C of I scholarship application are used to determine eligibility for all scholarships based on high school GPA, standardized test scores, activities and strength of academic record.
