Region I Baseball Tournament Game 1
Lewis-Clark State 4, Concordia 3
CALDWELL, Idaho - Brian Parker struck out seven batters in relief as top-ranked Lewis-Clark State opened the NAIA Region I Baseball Tournament with a 4-3 victory over Concordia University at Simplot Stadium.
With the win, the Warriors (49-4) move into tomorrow's winners bracket at 12:30 p.m. (MDT) against the winner of tonight's Albertson-British Columbia contest. Concordia will play tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. against the ACI-UBC loser.
After an injury sidelined L-C starter Mike Miller in the sixth, Parker came on an struck out Casey McLeod with the tying run at first inning to get out of the jam. The junior from Yakima, Wash., allowed only one hit to pick up his seventh save of the year.
The Warriors got all the runs they would need in the third, as Jessie Mier and Zach Evangelho each had RBI singles and Paul Martin added an RBI double. L-C had chances all day, but stranded 12 runners.
The No. 4 seeded Cavaliers (17-30) tallied three runs in the fifth to make the game interesting, as Kyle Waterland laced a two-run double off the centerfield wall and Cody Herrick added an RBI single, but could not get closer.
Martin went 3-for-3 in the win for L-C, while Waterland went 3-for-4, all doubles, for CU.
