RADIO AND INTERNET BROADCASTS:

Throughout the course of an athletic year, The College of Idaho athletic department broadcasts over 50 games live on the radio and internet, covering sports in winter and spring.

Basketball games dominate the internet and radio during the winter, as all Coyote men's basketball games and women's road conference games can be heard live in the Treasure Valley on 1490 KCID-AM.  In addition, most men's basketball games, along with all women's conference games (plus home non-conference games) can be heard live on the internet.

During the spring, most home baseball and softball games, along with select road baseball games, can be heard live on the internet.

VOICE OF THE COYOTES, MIKE SAFFORD JR.:

Mike Safford Jr. begins his seventh year as sports information director for The C of I athletic department.  Along with his media relations duties, Safford doubles as the associate athletic director, and serves as the “Voice of the Coyotes” for men's and women's basketball on 1490-KCID, along with calling C of I baseball and softball games on radio and the internet.

Safford came to The C of I after three years as sports information director at The Evergreen State College.  Safford has also broadcasted Evergreen basketball, Pacific Lutheran University basketball, baseball, and softball, University of Puget Sound football, along with high school sports for seven years in the Puget Sound.  He also was the play-by-play broadcaster for the Boise Hawks, the Northwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, for three seasons.

An active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, Safford helped the Albertson sports information office win a pair of “Best in the Nation” awards in the NAIA-SIDA Publications Contest in 2002 and has placed 16 times within the contests' top-ten.  He was also named the Cascade Conference SID-of-the-Year in 2003.

A native of Puyallup, Wash., Safford received his bachelor’s degree in print and broadcast journalism at Pacific Lutheran University in 1998.  He and wife Liza live in Caldwell with their newborn son, Parker.
