Moments of the Decade - Cross Country

12.28.2009

With the decade coming to a close on Thursday night, The College of Idaho sports information department, in conjunction with former players, coaches, and fans, came up with the Top-3 Moments of the Decade for each sport sponsored by The College.

The following are the Top-3 Moments of the Decade in Cross Country

1. November 21, 2009 – 4th Place finish at Nationals

Led by All-America efforts by Stephanie Helm and Greg Montgomery, The C of I cross country teams each recorded Top-10 finishes at the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, Wash., with the combined team score putting the Yotes fourth overall.  The Lady Yotes capped a great year in which they won the Cascade Conference title by finishing seventh, while the men’s team claimed tenth overall.

2. November 8, 2008 – Lady Yotes win CCC crown

Thanks to the second-straight individual title by Stephanie Helm, The C of I women’s cross country team won their first-ever Cascade Conference championship in Seattle, Wash.  With four runners placed in the Top-10, the squad earned a 35-point victory over second-place Concordia, helping the Lady Yotes to their first-ever team appearance at the NAIA Championships.

3. September 10, 2005 – Coyotes win first-ever meet

David Fluckiger finished third overall as the Coyotes claimed their first-ever meet championship, winning the Hampton Inn Invitational in Nampa.  The Yotes defeated Boise State for the first time, along with Northwest Nazarene and Top-25 teams from Eastern Oregon and Lewis-Clark State.  The squad would complete the season with their first-ever trip to the NAIA Championships.

HM September 24, 2003 – Cross Country/Track to return

The Coyotes announced that a distance running program would return to the campus in time for the 2004-05 season, ending 27 years without cross country and track.  Athletic Director Marty Holly announced the hiring of Pat McCurry as head coach.

HM November 7, 2009 – Lady Yotes dominate CCC meet

The Lady Yotes won their second-straight CCC title, with all five scoring runners earning All-CCC honors in Springfield, Ore.  Stephanie Helm took third, Tegan Troutner fifth, Molli Lee-Painter sixth, Kaitlyn Gerard tenth, and Kayloni Jones 12th, defeating their next closest team by 58 points.
