LAST WEEK: At NAIA Region I Tournament – Defeated Westminster, 2-0; Lost to Seattle, 2-0
‘YOTES FALL IN REGIONAL FINAL: Ninety minutes away from a return trip to the NAIA Championships, Albertson could not muster a ball into the net against eighth-ranked Seattle University, as the 1995 NAIA Champions defeated the ‘Yotes, 2-0. A day earlier, Albertson was able to extract some revenge on Westminster College, defeating the Griffins 2-0. Westminster, who defeated Albertson earlier in the year, fell victim to second half goals by Coe Michaelson and Jason Southward. Jake Steele earned his seventh shutout of the year in goal.
MICHAELSON FALLS SHORT OF RECORD: Junior Coe Michaelson finished the 2001 season with 21 goals, just two goals shy of the school record of 23 set by Mark Blazek in the mid 1990s.
ALBERTSON DOMINATES ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM: Despite Michaelson losing the Player-of-the-Year award by one vote, seven ‘Yotes earned All-Cascade Conference honors. Michaelson, along with keeper Jake Steele earned honors for the second straight year. Seniors Jake Carson and Ryan Masingill, junior Brad Thornberg, along with freshmen Ryan Abo and Jason Southward – earned all-conference honors for the first time.
SEASON RECAP: Albertson ends the 2001 season with 17 wins, equaling the total set last season. The squad set school records for goals in a season (68), goals in a game (13), along with an 11-game win streak and a 10-game road win streak.

LADY ‘YOTES EARN AT-LARGE BERTH TO REGIONALS: Despite dropping a three-game match to Southern Oregon in the conference tournament semifinals, Albertson rebounded with a dominating 30-18, 30-27, 30-18 victory over Oregon Tech. The win gave the Lady ‘Yotes third-place in the tournament – and more importantly, a berth to the NAIA Region I tournament. Albertson earned the only at-large spot, as the regional committee awarded the third-place Cascade Conference team the berth, instead of Rocky Mountain, the third-place team in the Frontier Conference.
ABOUT THE REGIONAL: Six teams will take place in the tournament, set to begin on Thursday in Helena, Mont. Concordia (Cascade champ), Southern Oregon (Cascade runner-up), Carroll College (Frontier champ), Lewis-Clark State (Frontier runner-up), Simon Fraser (independent champ), and the Lady ‘Yotes will vie for a berth to the NAIA Championships in West Palm Beach, Fla. Albertson opens up pool play against Carroll at 7 p.m. Thursday, and face Southern Oregon for the fourth time this season on Friday at 1 p.m. Semifinals and the championship will take place on Saturday.

This season, Albertson has jumped out to a 5-0 mark – helped by a championship at the Homestead Suites Invitational hosted by Westminster College. Neal Robertson added 25 points for the victors.
Albertson 76, Westminster 57 – The ‘Yotes scored the final 17 points of the contest, holding the host Griffins without a field goal for the final seven minutes of play. BACK HOME, SORT OF: Although the ‘Yotes are back in Idaho for the first time this year, they must face a tough road test before Friday’s home opener with Prairie Bible of Alberta. Albertson travels to Boise State for a meeting with the Division I Broncos, who defeated the ‘Yotes 96-76 last year. Following the BSU game, Albertson hosts its Fall Classic this weekend, as Prairie Bible, Southern Oregon, Rocky Mountain come calling on Caldwell. After playing the first six games on the road, the ‘Yotes will play four straight games in the Activities Center and one in the Idaho Center before heading back out on the road.

LAST WEEK: lost at home to Carroll, 88-87 in overtime
HEARTBREAK CITY IN ROSSI’S DEBUT: Fans in the Activities Center Friday night got their more than their moneys worth, as Carroll College stunned the partisan Albertson crowd as Megan Goodheart spoiled the ‘Yotes opener, as Megan Goodheart canned a three at the buzzer, giving the Saints an 88-87 win. Carroll led by as many as 15 in the second half before the Coyotes went on runs of 9-0 and 14-4 to take a four point lead with 2:18 left in regulation. However, Jennifer Driscoll buried a three with 31 ticks left to send the game to overtime. Albertson held the by two with ten seconds left in the extra session, but Danielle Zelinski found Goodheart open in the corner to break the hearts of the Lady 'Yotes and their fans.
GREAT ALL-AROUND PERFORMANCE: Albertson was led by Heidi Goicoechea and Krystal Thacker, who scored 19 and 18 points respectively. Jeannie Thompson and Kristen Bailey both chipped in 15 points with Thompson leading the way grabbing 12 rebounds.
SUNNY CALIFORNIA?: Rain has been forecast all week in Southern California, but hopefully for the Lady ‘Yotes sake, it will have passed before this weekend.
