Garsez a Boise Hawk

Former College of Idaho All-American Izaac Garsez returned to the Treasure Valley today, as the Chicago Cubs' farmhand was assigned to the Boise Hawks from the rookie-level Mesa Cubs.

The two-time NAIA All-American, drafted in the 30th Round of the 2012 MLB First Year Players Draft, batted .273 with a homer, three triples, four stolen bases, and eight RBI in the Arizona Rookie League, before his promotion to Boise.

College of Idaho outfielder Izaac Garsez was selected today by the Chicago Cubs, with the 914th pick in the 30th Round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft.

The two-time NAIA All-American and two-time NAIA West Player of the Year hit .389 as a senior, with eight home runs and 53 RBI, leading the NAIA with a school-record 12 triples.  He added 20 doubles, 29 stolen bases on the season, leading the NAIA West with 93 hits and 75 runs scored.  He was recommended by Cubs area scout, Al Geddes.

Coyotes finish #10

Fueled off a trip to the AVISTA-NAIA World Series, The College of Idaho climbed to No. 10 in the postseason NAIA Top-25 Coaches’ Poll, released this afternoon by the national office in Kansas City, Mo.

The Yotes (41-21) received their highest national ranking since the 2002 season – well ahead of their No. 22 ranking earlier this season.  It was the second-highest jump in the poll, as national runners-up Rogers State (Okla.) climbed from No. 23 to No. 2.  The C of I received 326 voter points in the final poll.

Garsez Named All-American

College of Idaho outfielder Izaac Garsez was named to the Rawlings-NAIA All-America team as a first-team selection, announced this afternoon by the national office in Kansas City, Mo.

The senior, from Caldwell, is the first first-team selection for the Coyotes since 1998, and just the second in program history.  Levi Lacey earned first-team honors in both 1997 and 1998. 

Garsez hit .389 with eight home runs and 53 RBI, along with 20 doubles, 12 triples, and 29 stolen bases.  He was also named NAIA West Player of the Year and was a 2012 Preseason NAIA All-American.

4 Named Scholar-Athletes

Four College of Idaho baseball players were among the 243 student-athletes honored today as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, announced prior today's games at the AVISTA-NAIA World Series in Lewiston.

Tanner Hodges, Jesse Dodd, Brett Ward, and Bryan Hildebrand were honored for having being at least a junior in academic status and maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better at The C of I.

Dodd Named AAA

College of Idaho first-baseman Jesse Dodd was honored today as a member of the prestigious Capital One/CoSIDA College Division Academic All-America®  team, released this morning in Towson, Md.

The senior, from Eagle, earned third-team honors – becoming the first-ever C of I baseball player to earn the accolades – comprising of all players from NAIA, junior college, or Canadian university programs.

Season Ended by L-C

A three-run home run by Braxton Miller in the first inning held up for Lewis-Clark State, as the Warriors knocked off The College of Idaho, 5-1, in an elimination game at the 56th Annual AVISTA-NAIA World Series, before a crowd of 2,530 at Harris Field.

The Warriors (42-13) will move on to play either LSU-Shreveport or Rogers State on Monday afternoon, while the Coyotes season comes to a close at 41-21.

Point Park Stops Yotes

LEWISTON - Ossie Alfonzo drove in three runs, including the go-ahead RBI single in a five-run fifth inning rally, as Point Park University defeated The College of Idaho, 7-3, in Game 1 of the 56th Annual AVISTA-NAIA World Series at Harris Field.

The Pioneers (52-9) rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to win their first Series game since the 1987 season, ending a nine-game skid.  PPU will meet Lee University in Game 7 of the tournament, tomorrow at 3 p.m.

World Series Eve

The College of Idaho made their final preparations for tomorrow's AVISTA-NAIA World Series opener against Point Park (Pa.) with a whirlwind day in Lewiston.
