Garsez Drafted by Cubs

College of Idaho outfielder Izaac Garsez was selected today by the Chicago Cubs, with the 914th pick in the 30th Round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft.

The two-time NAIA All-American and two-time NAIA West Player of the Year hit .389 as a senior, with eight home runs and 53 RBI, leading the NAIA with a school-record 12 triples.  He added 20 doubles, 29 stolen bases on the season, leading the NAIA West with 93 hits and 75 runs scored.  He was recommended by Cubs area scout, Al Geddes.

Coyotes finish #10

Fueled off a trip to the AVISTA-NAIA World Series, The College of Idaho climbed to No. 10 in the postseason NAIA Top-25 Coaches’ Poll, released this afternoon by the national office in Kansas City, Mo.

The Yotes (41-21) received their highest national ranking since the 2002 season – well ahead of their No. 22 ranking earlier this season.  It was the second-highest jump in the poll, as national runners-up Rogers State (Okla.) climbed from No. 23 to No. 2.  The C of I received 326 voter points in the final poll.

Garsez Named All-American

College of Idaho outfielder Izaac Garsez was named to the Rawlings-NAIA All-America team as a first-team selection, announced this afternoon by the national office in Kansas City, Mo.

The senior, from Caldwell, is the first first-team selection for the Coyotes since 1998, and just the second in program history.  Levi Lacey earned first-team honors in both 1997 and 1998. 

Garsez hit .389 with eight home runs and 53 RBI, along with 20 doubles, 12 triples, and 29 stolen bases.  He was also named NAIA West Player of the Year and was a 2012 Preseason NAIA All-American.
