Seagraves Foundation gift fosters C of I philanthropy

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” Those words once floated off the famous tongue of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. And it is fair to say The College of Idaho Student Philanthropy Council (SPC), along with the Seagraves Family Foundation, have their rent covered.

Since 2006, The College of Idaho and the Seagraves foundation have partnered to promote student-led philanthropy on campus and in the Caldwell community. And with a recent gift of $100,000 from the Seagraves Foundation, C of I students will have a chance to make an even bigger impact.

Robert E. Smylie marks 100th birthday anniversary

Robert E. Smylie was born Oct. 31, 1914 in Marcus, Iowa, as the Great War changed the world as we know it. And as Friday marks the 100th anniversary of his birth, The College of Idaho looks back at a great man, a great governor and a great Yote who made significant contributions to the State of Idaho.

Yotes à Paris: Alumni plan 2015 trip to France

If you want to experience Paris first-hand, The College of Idaho alumni relations office has a “study abroad” trip for you.

During September 2015, retired C of I professors Jim Angresano and Elizabeth Angresano will lead a group of alumni on a 12-day trip to Paris.

Alumnus makes mark in Washington soccer league

While playing soccer at The College of Idaho, recent graduate and former goalkeeper Colin Benham-Marin ’14 didn’t win any all-conference awards. He wasn’t a big name.

But after five years of donning purple and gold, Benham-Marin is working to make his dream of playing professionally a reality. Benham-Marin burst onto the scene this summer after joining Wenatchee FC, a team in the newly formed Evergreen Premier League in Washington (EPLWA). He immediately made his presence felt, earning back-to-back shutouts on his way to the West Coast Goalkeeping Safe Hands award.

C of I honors distinguished alumni award winners

The College of Idaho honored three outstanding alumni during the recent Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony, which took place Oct. 16 in the Langroise Center as part of Homecoming week. Read more about the winners below. Congratulations to these outstanding alumni!

Distinguished Young Alumni Award: David Papiez ’05

After graduating cum laude from The College, Papiez took a job as a ski instructor at Tamarack Resort and soon climbed the ladder to asset manager and controller.

NASA astronomer to speak at the C of I

The College of Idaho is set to host guest speaker Dr. Paul Weissman as part of the American Astronomical Society’s Harlow Shapley Visiting Lectureships in Astronomy program. Weissman will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 inside the Langroise Center for Performing and Fine Arts on the C of I campus in Caldwell. The event is free and open to the public. 

C of I alumnus stars in Idaho Horror Film Festival

A new Treasure Valley festival is looking to make a scare this Halloween season, and the scintillating music of recent College of Idaho graduate Sean Dahlman ’14 is taking center stage in Boise.

Religion, music converge at C of I Judaic studies event

The College of Idaho will host visiting composer Dr. Michael John Trotta as part of an interdisciplinary panel discussion and musical event Tuesday, Oct. 14. The public event, titled “Surely, You Are in This Place,” begins at 7 p.m. in the Langroise Center for Performing and Fine Arts on the C of I campus in Caldwell as part of the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation Lectureship in Judaic Studies.

C of I campus set for Homecoming 2014
