C of I sets enrollment high, campus diversity grows

The College of Idaho has 1,059 students enrolled for the 2012-2013 school year, an increase of just under 2 percent from last year’s enrollment, according to the official tenth-day figures released by the institutional research department today, Sept. 26. This year’s enrollment is the highest in the history of the Caldwell liberal arts college, topping the previous high of 1,055 students in 2010-2011.

C of I launches lectureship with colloquium on religion

The College of Idaho is set to host the first lecture of the recently established Carter-Chalker Lectureship on Faith and Contemporary Issues as “Through Many Windows:  A Colloquium on Religion” comes to the C of I campus in Caldwell. The colloquium will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in Langroise Auditorium, shortly after C of I President Marv Henberg gives his annual “State of the College” address. Admission is free and open to the public.

Bon Appétit hosts Eat Local Food Challenge at the C of I

The College of Idaho’s campus food service provider, Bon Appétit, is set to host its eighth annual Eat Local Food Challenge on Sept. 25 inside Simplot Dining Hall on the C of I campus in Caldwell. This year’s event is titled the Eat Local (Fish) Challenge in honor of Bon Appétit’s year-long focus on local and sustainable fish.

Guest lecture explores exercise and brain function

The College of Idaho will host a guest speaker as part of the Treasure Valley Psychology Lecture Series for the second consecutive year when University of Illinois professor Art Kramer presents “Take a Hike: Physical Activity, Cognition and Brain Function” at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, inside Langroise Auditorium on the C of I campus in Caldwell. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Whittenberger Planetarium hosts September show

The College of Idaho’s Whittenberger Planetarium invites the campus community and the public to learn about the Autumnal Equinox at its upcoming September show. The show, set for 7 p.m. Sept. 19 inside Boone Science Hall on the C of I campus in Caldwell, will explore equinoxes, solstices and the circumstances that bring them about, as well as give an overview of the constellations and planets visible in the Idaho night sky this month.

C of I earns national praise from U.S. News

The College of Idaho once again has been named one of America’s “Best National Liberal Arts Colleges” according to the 2013 U.S. News & World Report rankings released Wednesday, Sept. 12. The C of I moved up seven spots from last year to No. 164 on the list, which ranks schools based on graduation rate, class size, alumni giving percentage and other indicators of academic quality.

Caldwell Fine Arts set for 2012-13 season

Caldwell Fine Arts is set to kick off its 52nd season celebrating the performing arts inside Jewett Auditorium at The College of Idaho. The 2012-2013 season begins Sept. 8 with the Beat Beethoven 5K Fun Run fundraiser and will feature 14 events and performances starring a wide variety of theatre, dance and musical guests throughout the school year.

College of Idaho alumna and longtime CFA director Sylvia Hunt ’59 is pleased with Caldwell Fine Arts’ 2012-2013 lineup, which includes a diverse blend of new acts and returning audience favorites.

Freshman class prepares to discover Idaho soil virus

Freshmen at The College of Idaho will get an opportunity to discover a new virus during their introductory biology lab course this year, thanks to the College’s acceptance into the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Science Education Alliance.

As the first Idaho school to be invited into the prestigious Alliance, the College is participating in a national genomics research project that also aims to introduce science students to novel research at the beginning of their undergraduate experience.
