Whittenberger Planetarium hosts December public show

The long nights and cold weather that define Idaho’s winter months will be explained to audiences during this month’s Whittenberger Planetarium public show, set for 7 p.m. Dec. 4 inside Boone Science Hall on The College of Idaho campus in Caldwell. Adults and older children will learn about the Winter Solstice and its effects on winter weather as well as the wide variety of constellations and planets visible in the chilly Idaho night sky this month.

Cultural Show to highlight international diversity

The College of Idaho’s international students will share the music, dance, poetry and history of their homelands during the annual Cultural Show on Nov. 30, an event that highlights the diversity of the College community.

C of I presents ‘Walker with Strings’ concert

The College of Idaho Music Department is pleased to present a collaborative evening of jazz with strings featuring trumpeter/composer Rob Walker. Titled “Walker with Strings,” the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 inside Langroise Recital Hall on the C of I campus in Caldwell. The concert is free and open to the public.

C of I to host Chalk Art Competition

The College of Idaho Art Club is set to host its inaugural community Chalk Art Competition from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, on the C of I Campus in Caldwell. The event is being held in conjunction with the College’s Homecoming festivities and will take place on the sidewalks around McCain Student Center. The competition is free and open to participants and observers of all ages.

The College of Idaho’s Whittenberger Planetarium is exploring the planets Mercury and Mars this month. Come learn about these alien worlds and see the latest findings and images captured by NASA spacecraft during recent voyages to space during the November public show, set for 7 p.m. Nov. 7 inside Boone Science Hall on the C of I campus in Caldwell. The show also will include a quick tour of the constellations and planets visible in the Idaho night sky this month.    

Campus Ministries offers four service learning trips

The College of Idaho is offering four service-learning opportunities this school year through Campus Ministries’ Potter’s Clay program. Campus Ministries will lead experiences in Mexico, Haiti, Ecuador and Caldwell.

“The purpose of service learning is two-fold,” said C of I campus minister Phil Rogers. “It’s an opportunity for students to make a difference in the world, but it’s also a very powerful thing to take part in. We’ve had more than 500 students participate in Potter’s Clay programs in the past 15 years.  For many, it has been a life-altering experience.”

C of I launches lectureship with colloquium on religion

The College of Idaho is set to host the first lecture of the recently established Carter-Chalker Lectureship on Faith and Contemporary Issues as “Through Many Windows:  A Colloquium on Religion” comes to the C of I campus in Caldwell. The colloquium will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in Langroise Auditorium, shortly after C of I President Marv Henberg gives his annual “State of the College” address. Admission is free and open to the public.

Bon Appétit hosts Eat Local Food Challenge at the C of I

The College of Idaho’s campus food service provider, Bon Appétit, is set to host its eighth annual Eat Local Food Challenge on Sept. 25 inside Simplot Dining Hall on the C of I campus in Caldwell. This year’s event is titled the Eat Local (Fish) Challenge in honor of Bon Appétit’s year-long focus on local and sustainable fish.

The College of Idaho’s Whittenberger Planetarium invites the campus community and the public to learn about the Autumnal Equinox at its upcoming September show. The show, set for 7 p.m. Sept. 19 inside Boone Science Hall on the C of I campus in Caldwell, will explore equinoxes, solstices and the circumstances that bring them about, as well as give an overview of the constellations and planets visible in the Idaho night sky this month.
