Yotes shine at Idaho INBRE conference

This summer, 10 College of Idaho students and several professors joined representatives from 10 other Idaho institutions to take part in the 2016 Idaho INBRE Statewide Research Conference. The conference, held in Moscow, featured posters, pictures and presentations on the latest biomedical research.

And of the 15 awards given out, C of I students snagged four.

Hawgood chosen to chair student-athlete committee

College of Idaho student Emily Hawgood is part of the cross-country, track, and swim teams. And now, she’ll represent the College and the entire student-athlete body of the Cascade Collegiate Conference as Chair of the CCC Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

At last week’s conference, Hawgood, a senior from Beatrice, Zimbabwe, was chosen by her peers from fellow institutions across the CCC to chair the organization.

Cultural Exchange: First-ever direct exchange students visit C of I

Fall semester is well under way, and The College of Idaho campus is as vibrant and culturally diverse as ever. The C of I is home to 71 international students representing 49 countries this year, but for the first time, three of those students are part of a direct exchange program.

Emily Tian, Patricia Xinyi, and Taxwen Tin have traveled nearly 7,000 miles from the China University of Politics and Law in Beijing, China, to study in Caldwell.

“I wanted to experience a different culture, the western culture and the western educational system,” Xinyi said.

Meet the faces ‘Behind the Badge’ of Campus Safety

They patrol The College of Idaho campus 24 hours per day. If there’s something strange in the neighborhood—or if you lost your student I.D. card—they’re the ones you call. But in many ways, C of I Campus Safety Officers lead fairly anonymous lives.

  • Alumni News & Notes: Ralph Lawrence ‘53 became the newly appointed pastor of the Caldwell United Methodist Church. Lawrence first got his start in ministry after being called while he was a student at The College of Idaho. He has previously served around the state of Idaho and in Oregon.

A walk down Memory Hall: Finney, Voorhees dorms contain a century of stories

Built in 1910 and 1912, respectively, Finney and Voorhees Halls are two of the three oldest buildings on The College of Idaho campus. Alongside Sterry Hall, their brick façades have been an iconic part of the College for more than a century. And this school year, both Voorhees and Finney are undergoing $4 million renovation projects. 

While the exteriors will be fortified and the interiors completely refurbished, the memories made inside these historic walls will remain. And with 100 years’ worth of Yotes calling these two dorms home, there are plenty of stories to tell.

Off the grid: Yotes research in Idaho backcountry

The engine roared as a small bush plane flew a few hundred feet above the tree tops. Below, the Middle Fork of the Salmon River meandered through the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. As the plane dipped lower and lower, following the river, it turned toward the right bank and a small cut-out of green grass.

C of I set for Homecoming Weekend Oct. 6-9

Alumni and the entire YoteFam community will converge on the C of I campus for the annual festivities Oct. 6-9. This year’s events will celebrate the Business and Accounting Department, with the theme Taking Care of Business.

CFA presents the Mystical Arts of Tibet

Come watch and hear 11 Tibetan monks sing and play traditional instruments, perform exotic dances, and construct a mandala sand painting out of millions of grains of sand.
