garsez returns home as a boise hawk 

Former College of Idaho All-American Izaac Garsez returned to the Treasure Valley today, as the Chicago Cubs' farmhand was assigned to the Boise Hawks from the rookie-level Mesa Cubs.

The two-time NAIA All-American, drafted in the 30th Round of the 2012 MLB First Year Players Draft, batted .273 with a homer, three triples, four stolen bases, and eight RBI in the Arizona Rookie League, before his promotion to Boise.

swim team pushes recruiting class to 19

College of Idaho swim coach Christine Mabile has announced the signing of five student-athletes to NAIA Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 season, brining her total of incoming recruits to 19.

Three women - Madi Sato, Tori Emerick, and Hannah Biedenbach, and two men - Nolan Hill and Brennan Baker, will compete for the Coyote teams which placed in the Top-20 at last season's NAIA National Championships.

THE COLLEGE OF IDAHO JOINS FRONTIER CONFERENCE

The College of Idaho will join the Frontier Conference as a football only member in fall 2014 following a vote of the conference’s Council of Presidents, conference commissioner Kent Paulson announced today, June 27.

C of I great R.C. Owens passes away at 78

College of Idaho standout athlete and NAIA Hall of Famer R.C. Owens passed away Sunday afternoon in the Bay Area.  He was 78.

Owens (1934-2012), arguably the best athlete in the over 100-year history of C of I athletics played football and basketball, ran track, and was a member of the cheerleading team from 1952-56 - helping the football team to four-straight Northwest Conference championships.  The 1953 squad completed an unbeaten regular season, losing to Sam Houston State in the Refrigerator Bowl in Evansville, Ind.

c of I finishes #17 in NAIA Directors cup

The College of Idaho finished the 2011-12 athletic season No. 17 in the final NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, released this morning in Cleveland, Ohio.

It marked the highest finish ever by the Coyotes’ in the all-sports standings, including four Top-10 national finishes this season (baseball, volleyball, women’s cross country, women’s track & field).

The Coyotes finished with 498 points, with 11 sports earning points for their finishes in national competition.

garsez drafted in 30th round by chicago cubs 

College of Idaho outfielder Izaac Garsez was selected today by the Chicago Cubs, with the 914th pick in the 30th Round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft.

The two-time NAIA All-American and two-time NAIA West Player of the Year hit .389 as a senior, with eight home runs and 53 RBI, leading the NAIA with a school-record 12 triples.  He added 20 doubles, 29 stolen bases on the season, leading the NAIA West with 93 hits and 75 runs scored.  He was recommended by Cubs area scout, Al Geddes.

yotes finish season ranked #10 

Fueled off a trip to the AVISTA-NAIA World Series, The College of Idaho climbed to No. 10 in the postseason NAIA Top-25 Coaches’ Poll, released this afternoon by the national office in Kansas City, Mo.

The Yotes (41-21) received their highest national ranking since the 2002 season – well ahead of their No. 22 ranking earlier this season.  It was the second-highest jump in the poll, as national runners-up Rogers State (Okla.) climbed from No. 23 to No. 2.  The C of I received 326 voter points in the final poll.
