yotes play well in 7-2 loss at PLU

The College of Idaho men's tennis team played their best match of the season in a losing effort, dropping a 7-2 decision to Pacific Lutheran, inside the Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma, Wash.

The Coyotes (0-4) used a win by Mark Malmstrom and Chenjerai Simpson at No. 1 doubles to earn the early advantage - and played competitive in the remaining two doubles' positions, despite losses.

In the singles' ladder, freshman Kenny Stark recorded his first collegiate win, defeating Neal Berg at No. 4, 6-4, 7-6.  The Yotes had chances across the board, as Thomas McMahon lost a tough 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 decision to Luke Olson at No. 5, Malmstrom dropped a 6-4, 6-3 dual at No. 2 to Taylor Dickey, and freshman Oscar Mariscal lost 6-3, 6-4 to Reed Gunstone at No. 6.

The Yotes will make the trek tonight to the Willamette Valley, meeting George Fox tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
