PAVEY knocks in six in C of I win

Kendall Pavey tied a school record with six RBI in a Game 2 victory over Pacific University, as The College of Idaho split two games today at the Northwest Cup in Clackamas, Ore.

The Yotes (7-3) lost the opening game to George Fox, 5-4, but rebounded for a 10-8 victory over PU.

Game 1 saw the Coyotes jump out to a 3-0 lead, getting an RBI single from Nikki Shumway in the second and an Alexis Macias home run in the third.  However, the Bruins got a run back in the fifth off of four C of I walks, then took a 5-3 lead in the sixth on the strength of a two-run Jenny Milton single and a pair of bases loaded free passes.  A wild pitch allowed a run to score in the bottom of the sixth to get the Yotes within a run and had the tying run at second in the seventh, but could not plate her.

Shumway had the lone multi-hit game for either team, going 2-for-4, but a trio of C of I pitchers combined to walk 11 batters.

The Yotes jumped out to a 7-1 lead in Game 2 and had to hold on for the win over Pacific.  Pavey, who tied the school record of six RBI in a game, set by Dani Villyard in 2008, had a two-run single in the first inning to give C of I a 3-0 lead, then capped a three-run third with a two-run homer.  The Boxers got back in the game with a five-run fifth, keyed by two-run singles from Chelsey Chamberlain and Lauren Tuey, cutting the lead to 7-6, but Pavey lined a two-run single in the seventh to cap a three-run rally, as the Yotes held on for the win.

Pavey went 3-for-4 in the victory, with Molly Mills going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Hannah Johnson adding two hits.    Becca Moen, Nikki King, Jordan Mittelsdorf, and Tuey all had two hits for Pacific.

The Lady Yotes close out tournament play tomorrow with games vs. Lewis & Clark and Willamette.
