coyote men upset linfield college, 5-4
The College of Idaho men's tennis team scored their biggest victory since the reinstatement of the program in 2009, defeating Linfield College, 5-4, this morning in McMinnville, Ore.
The Lady Yotes were unable to compete a Sunday sweep, as Whitworth blanked The C of I, 9-0, in Lewiston.
The victory for the Coyotes (1-5) was their first against a four-year school in the Northwest since 2001 - as The C of I won two of the three doubles' points and split the six singles' matches. Kenny Stark and Thomas McMahon gutted out an 8-6 win over Micah Roos and Lukas Kleinman at No. 2 doubles, with James Collet and Joel Hernandez rolling to an 8-4 win at No. 3 over the Wildcats (0-1) Ben Brewer and Joel Troutdale.
In singles' play, the Yotes got a key 7-6, 7-5 win by Chenjerai Simpson at the top of the ladder against Cody Levein, with McMahon and Hernandez sweeping the bottom two spots in convincing fashion to win the match.
The Lady Yotes (0-4) struggled against the defending Northwest Conference champions, winning just seven singles' games in the six matches. Shae Stults had the best performance in her first match at No. 1 singles' - losing 6-2, 6-1 to Alli Marshall.
Both teams will have two weeks off from competition, returning to the court March 10 for their annual Alumni Weekend.
