coyote men 8th after giant slalom

Zach Shenk finished ninth today to lead The College of Idaho men's alpine ski team to an eighth-place finish in the giant slalom at the USCSA Western Regionals in Steamboat, Colo.

Shenk had the sixth-fastest time in the morning run, with his time of 1:33.24 just over three seconds behind the individual champ, Olle Friberg, of Rocky Mountain.  Zach Tomilnson placed 29th for the Yotes (1:36.87) and Greg Wanta took 41st (1:41.92).

Rocky took the team lead after Day 1, with a time of 4:33.96, over four-seconds clear of British Columbia.  The University of Colorado placed third, followed by Whitman and the University of Idaho.  The Yotes finished with a team time of 4:52.03.

Both the Coyote men and women will be on the hill tomorrow for the slalom qualifiers, with the Top-3 teams in the alpine combined earning a spot to the USCSA National Championships.
