yotes named CCC Team of the week
The College of Idaho baseball team was honored today as this week's Verizon-Cascade Conference Team of the Week, announced by the league office in La Grande, Ore.
The Coyotes (29-11) completed a perfect weekend on the diamond, sweeping a four-game NAIA West series from Oregon Tech, outscoring the Owls 48-16 during the two doubleheaders. The squad currently has a three-game lead on British Columbia for the No. 1 seed in the NAIA West postseason tournament with 12 games remaining.
Chad Yeggy picked up his league-leading seventh win of the season with a Game 1 victory, with the Yotes pounding out 22 hits in an 18-10 win in Game 2. Taylor Nicholson and two relievers combined on a eight-hit shutout in Game 3, the third shutout of the season by the Yotes, with the team registering 23 hits in a 17-3 rout in the series finale. Six different C of I players had at least six hits during the weekend, with Jarel Lewis going 9-for-17 with eight RBI and Izaac Garsez going 8-for-16 with nine runs scored and six RBI.
The C of I returns to action this weekend with a four-game series at Patten University, with the games to be played at Laney College in Oakland, Calif.
