lady yotes shoot record 308 on final day

Led by a pair of 74s from Trish Gibbens and Melissa Clausen, The College of Idaho women’s golf team carded their lowest team score in program history on the final day of the 2012 C of I Invitational at River Bend Golf Course in Wilder.

The Lady Yotes shot 308 as a team – seven shots better than rival Concordia, two shots clear of their previous best (310), recorded against Boise State last fall.  Unfortunately, a 39-stroke lead by CU after Day 1 helped the Cavaliers to the team title.

The C of I men finished sixth overall – recording a final round 303, but were 10 strokes out of third-place.

Gibbens finished one shot out of the running for medalist honors, as her 54-hole total of five-over 221 was tied with CU’s Sunny Powers for second-place.  The Cavaliers Sara Molyneux shot a final-round 77 to finish at four-over par 220.

Clausen vaulted up the leaderboard with her two-over round this morning – her lowest 18-hole score in her collegiate career, helping her to a tenth-place finish.  Two other Lady Yotes were in the Top-10, as Baylee Borchers placed seventh and Jocie Cracroft eighth.

Austen Giesie finish a quality tournament with a third round 73, finishing in a three-way tie for sixth at five-over par, seven strokes behind Concordia’s Jesse Heinly.  The CU men shot a final round 287 to earn the team title by nine strokes over North Idaho College.

Tyler Thurston shot a final round 71 for the Yotes to finish in a tie for tenth along with his teammate, Kyle DeLorey.  The duo carded 54-hole totals of seven-over 223.

Both C of I teams close out the regular-season next Monday and Tuesday at the Cascade Conference Championships at Diamond Woods Golf Club in Monroe, Ore.
