LAST WEEK: at Whitman Spring Three-Way – Exhibition (Men 3rd of 3 teams, Women 2nd of 3 teams)

WILD, WILD MARCH WEATHER: Weather played havoc on the Coyote golf teams in the past week, as wicked winds forced the Whitman 3-Way to be played as an exhibition match between the teams, while the schedule dual this week with Northwest Nazarene was pushed back 48-hours due to snow.

LAST WEEK: at NAIA Indoor National Championships

COYOTE MEN HAVE MONSTER MEET: Only four C of I men made the trip cross-country, but the quartet was able to score 12 team points – the most recorded a Coyote men’s team in program history.  The Yotes finished in a tie for 16th overall – the best finish ever by a C of I team (either gender), as the 2008 women’s team placed 21st, with the men’s team placing 31st in 2008.

Skiing

Behind a pair of Top-20 finishes by Sarah Silva and McKinley Carbone, The College of Idaho opened the 2012 USCSA National Championships with a sixth-place team finish in the women’s snowboard giant slalom this morning at Sunday River Resort in Bethel, Maine.

Silva, who earned a pair of All-America honors last season, placed 14th overall with a two-run time of 2:41.11, while Carbone, in her first national championship, placed 16th with a time of 2:43.56.

Baseball

Yotes Drop Windswept Game with NNU

Zeb Sneed allowed just two hits and struck out eight in five innings of work, as Northwest Nazarene made a five-run second inning stand up in a 5-4 victory over The College of Idaho at frigid Wolfe Field.

The Division II Crusaders (11-4) evened the four game series with the Yotes (16-6) at a game apiece with the victory.

gibbens named CCC player of the week

College of Idaho All-American Trish Gibbens was honored today as Red Lion-Cascade Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, released by the league office in La Grande, Ore.

Baseball

garsez named ccc player of the week 

College of Idaho outfielder Izaac Garsez was named Red Lion-Cascade Conference Player of the Week, released this afternoon by the league office in La Grande, Ore.

The senior, from Caldwell, helped the Coyotes to a 3-0 record last week - recording a trio of multi-hit games.  Garsez went 2-for-4 with two RBI in a 5-1 win over Northwest Nazarene, then had five hits in six at bats Sunday in a sweep of Simpson, recording two doubles and two RBI.  It marks the sixth time in his career that Garsez has been named Player of the Week.

Track and Field

3 COYOTES NAMED indoor track all-americans

A trio of College of Idaho athletes earned All-America honors at the conclusion of the 2012 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Geneva, Ohio.

Greg Montgomery became the first-ever five-time All-American in program history, earning All-America honors for his third-place finish in the mile.  The junior is a three-time cross country All-American, while earning All-America honors outdoors last season in the 10,000-meters.

Steals Record Broken in DH Split

The College of Idaho set a school record with 11 stolen bases and Taylor Nicholson tossed eight innings of three-hit shutout ball in the late game, as the Yotes split an NAIA West doubleheader with Simpson University at Wolfe Field.

The Redhawks (10-10, 1-3) picked up their first-ever win over the Coyotes in Game 1 by a 9-4 margin, with The C of I winning Game 2, 9-1.

Baseball

Izaac Garsez went 5-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI, helping The College of Idaho open NAIA West play with a doubleheader sweep of Simpson University, winning 6-4 and 12-4, at sunny Wolfe Field.

The Coyotes (15-4, 2-0) pounded out 24 hits in the twinbill, getting solid starting pitching from Chad Yeggy and Joshua Orr to run their win streak to four games.
