Golf

lady yotes shoot record 308 on final day 

Led by a pair of 74s from Trish Gibbens and Melissa Clausen, The College of Idaho women’s golf team carded their lowest team score in program history on the final day of the 2012 C of I Invitational at River Bend Golf Course in Wilder.

The Lady Yotes shot 308 as a team – seven shots better than rival Concordia, two shots clear of their previous best (310), recorded against Boise State last fall.  Unfortunately, a 39-stroke lead by CU after Day 1 helped the Cavaliers to the team title.

The College of Idaho dropped two spots to No. 21 in the latest NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll, released this afternoon by the national office in Kansas City, Mo.

yotes named CCC Team of the week 

The College of Idaho baseball team was honored today as this week's Verizon-Cascade Conference Team of the Week, announced by the league office in La Grande, Ore.

The Coyotes (29-11) completed a perfect weekend on the diamond, sweeping a four-game NAIA West series from Oregon Tech, outscoring the Owls 48-16 during the two doubleheaders.  The squad currently has a three-game lead on British Columbia for the No. 1 seed in the NAIA West postseason tournament with 12 games remaining.

The College of Idaho women’s golf team sits in second-place and the men’s team in sixth-place after Day 1 of the C of I Invitational, at River Bend Golf Course in Wilder.

The Lady Yotes rebounded from a rough opening round to card a 312 in the afternoon, but their 36-hole total is 39-strokes back of front-running Concordia.

garsez named CCC Player of the Week for 3rd time 

For the third time this season, Izaac Garsez was honored as Red Lion-Cascade Conference Player of the Week, announced this afternoon by the league office in La Grande, Ore.

The senior, from Caldwell, helped the Coyotes to a four-game sweep of Oregon Tech, going 8-for-16 at the plate, with nine runs scored and six RBI.  Garsez broke his own single-season record for triples, pushing the mark to 11 - leading all NAIA players.  He also pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four.

Three pitchers combined on a shutout in the opener, with The College of Idaho pounding out 23 hits in Game 2, as the Coyotes completed a four-game sweep of Oregon Tech with 6-0 and 17-3 victories at Wolfe Field.

The Yotes (29-11, 14-6 NAIA West) extended their win streak to five - opening up a three-game lead on British Columbia for the No. 1 seed in the NAIA West Tournament with 12 games remaining in the regular-season.

Tennis

men's netters split matches in lewiston 

The College of Idaho men's tennis team split a pair of matches today in Lewiston, dropping a 9-0 decision to host Lewis-Clark State, before winning a 6-3 match-up with the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Against L-C, the Yotes (3-8) won their first set against the nationally-ranked Warriors since The C of I reinstated the program in 2009, as Chenjerai Simpson dropped a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5 in superbreaker) decision to Ivan Krijanto.  However, L-C dominated all three doubles' matches and swept the singles' ladder.

Baseball

lewis knocks in 7 in sweep of Oregon Tech 

Jarel Lewis went 6-for-9 with seven RBI, as The College of Idaho swept an NAIA West doubleheader from Oregon Tech, winning 7-3 and 18-10, at Wolfe Field.

The Coyotes (27-11, 12-6) pounded out 32 hits in the two wins - with Izaac Garsez setting a new school record with his tenth triple of the season in Game 2.  The C of I used their speed in the wins, combining for 10 stolen bases.

Softball

yotes split match-up of top-25 teams 

Nickayla Skinner hit a pair of home runs, while striking out a combined 19 batters, helping The College of Idaho to a doubleheader split with No. 23 ranked Corban University in Salem, Ore.

The No. 19 ranked Lady Yotes (24-10, 7-7 CCC) dropped a 4-2 decision in the opener, but hung on for a 5-2 victory in Game 2.

BASTERRECHEA BREAKS RECORD AT CCC MULTIS 

Austin Basterrechea set a school-record with the third-highest decathlon score in the NAIA this season, leading an outstanding showing by The College of Idaho at the Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships in Oregon City, Ore.
