Day 2 of the Spring Break trip for The College of Idaho was a banner one, as both the Coyote men and women picked up wins in California - the Yotes winning 7-2 at DeAnza College, with the Lady Yotes picking up a 6-0 victory at Notre Dame de Namur.
The Coyotes (2-5) won their second match in a row - using a pair of hard-fought wins in doubles to gain control of the match against the two-year school from Cupertino. Thomas McMahon and Kenny Stark at No. 1 and Taylor Gordon and Zach Buker at No. 3 both picked up 9-8 victories, as The C of I took 2-of-3 doubles' points. The Yotes won 5-of-6 singles' matches, including convincing wins by Mark Malmstrom at No. 2 (6-0, 6-1 over Kevin Don) and by Joel Hernandez at No. 6 (6-1, 6-1 over Jon Howell.
The Lady Yotes (1-4) made quick work of the Argos, a NCAA Division II school from Belmont, as NDNU had just four players on the court. The C of I swept doubles play - including an 8-0 win by Theresa Kucera and Cassie Low at No. 2. In singles' play, the Yotes won all four matches in straight sets - including 6-0, 6-1 decisions by Shae Stults at No. 2 (over Morgana Hayes) and by Kucera at No. 3 (over Maria Gallindo).
The Coyote men continue their trip tomorrow with a match at Foothill College, while the Lady Yotes meet a second Division II school - Sonoma State.
