Big Day at Idaho Cup

Andre Archer won the men's triple jump, leading a record-breaking weekend for The College of Idaho track and field teams at the All-Idaho Collegiate Cup, hosted by Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa.

Archer broke his own school record with a leap of 46-2 1/2 - good enough to meet the NAIA "B" qualifying standard.  It was one of seven school records to fall in the two-day meet, while 26 Cascade Conference qualifying marks were met.

Mitchell Earns CCC Honor

College of Idaho sprinter Diamond Mitchell was honored today as Cascade Conference Women's Track and Field Runner of the Week, announced by the league office in La Grande, Ore.

The sophomore, from San Diego, Calif., opened up the outdoor season with a bang - winning the 100 and 200-meter events at Saturday's Pacific Preview.  Mitchell established two school records with her time of 12.50 in the 100 and 25.71 in the 200, both CCC Championships qualifying marks.

The Yotes will have the week off, preparing for the All-Idaho Collegiate Cup, March 30-31.

Big Day at Pacific Preview

Jason Hunt hit the NAIA "B" qualifying standard in winning the 5,000-meters, while four school records fell on the women's side, as The College of Idaho opened up the outdoor track and field season at the Pacific Preview in Forest Grove, Ore.

OFF TO OREGON: The Coyotes will open the outdoor portion of the track and field season on Saturday, traveling to Forest Grove, Ore., for the Pacific Preview.  A total of 14 men’s and 25 women’s athletes will compete at the event, which will feature teams from Northwest Christian and Evergreen, along with Lewis & Clark, Pacific, Pacific Lutheran, Linfield, and Puget Sound.

COYOTE MEN HAVE MONSTER MEET: Only four C of I men made the trip cross-country, but the quartet was able to score 12 team points – the most recorded a Coyote men’s team in program history.  The Yotes finished in a tie for 16th overall – the best finish ever by a C of I team (either gender), as the 2008 women’s team placed 21st, with the men’s team placing 31st in 2008.

Three Yotes Named All-Americans

A trio of College of Idaho athletes earned All-America honors at the conclusion of the 2012 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Geneva, Ohio.

Greg Montgomery became the first-ever five-time All-American in program history, earning All-America honors for his third-place finish in the mile.  The junior is a three-time cross country All-American, while earning All-America honors outdoors last season in the 10,000-meters.

Greg Montgomery smashed the school record in the mile run, recording the highest finish ever by a College of Idaho men's track and field athlete in national competition, placing third to highlight the final day of the 2012 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio.

The effort helped the Coyote men to their best team finish ever, scoring 12 team points, good enough for a tie for 16th-place overall.

Basterrechea 5th in Heptathlon

Austin Basterrechea equaled the second-best finish by a College of Idaho men's competitor at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, placing fifth in the heptathlon, as Day 2 of the event commenced in Geneva, Ohio.

The sophomore, from Gooding, overcame an off-day in the pole vault to record a school-record score of 4,987 points.  Basterrechea began the day with a time of 9.12 in the 60-meter hurdles, followed by a rough 12-4 pole vault, before rallying with a victory in the 1,000-meters (2;39.39).
