Five Yotes Hit NAIA Marks at Jackson's Invite

School record setting performances by Hillary Holt and Austin Basterrechea were among four NAIA Automatic Qualifying marks on the final day of the 2012 Jackson’s Invitational in Nampa.

Holt shattered the school record in the 800-meters (2:15.55) with a fifth-place performance against NCAA Division I competition. Teammate Kayloni Perry hit the NAIA “A” standard in the same race, finishing in a time of 2:17.63.

Klopfenstein hits NAIA Standard

Sora Klopfenstein hit the NAIA "A" standard with a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meters, highlighting College of Idaho athletes on Day 1 of the Jackson's Invitational at the Jackson's Indoor Track in Nampa.

The sophomore, from Meridian, clocked a time of 10:27.83, meeting the automatic standard for the NAIA Indoor National Championships. Brittany Beame led a contingent of four sprinters in the 200-meters, recording a time of 27.91.

Youren Named CCC Player of the Week

College of Idaho freshman Audrey Youren was honored today as one of two Red Lion Cascade Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week, announced by the league office in La Grande, Ore.

The Gooding native earned the accolade in the field events, where she established a new school record in the high jump in her collegiate debut at the Bronco Invitational.  Youren cleared five-feet, one-inch, eclipsing the previous mark of 5-0 1/4, set by Emily McCutchan during the 2010 season.

Basterrechea Breaks Three Records at Bronco Invite

College of Idaho sophomore Austin Basterrechea had a monster day at the 2012 Bronco Invitational, breaking a trio of school indoor records to highlight the Coyote contingent at the Jackson's Indoor Track in Nampa.

Basterrechea, who qualified for the USA Junior Nationals last summer, finished fourth against a field of primarily NCAA Division I competitors in the high jump, clearing 6-4 1/4, crushing C of I's indoor mark.  The Gooding native also placed sixth in the long jump (21-5 1/2) and made the finals in the 60-hurdles (9.31) - recording a C of I record in each event.

2012 SYNOPSIS: The Coyote track and field team will run a limited indoor schedule in 2012, however, with the bulk of a record-setting squad returning from last season, things bode well for a large contingent of competitors making the trek to Geneva, Ohio, and the NAIA National Championships.

Basterrechea, Holt Compete at USA Junior Nationals

Both Austin Basterrechea and Hillary Holt recorded Top-20 finishes representing The College of Idaho at the United States Track and Field Junior National Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Basterrechea finished 13th overall in the decathlon - setting a personal-best in the javelin with a throw of 134-3, logging 6,071 points against the best 20-years-and-under competitors in the nation.

Colleen Smith Named CCC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Colleen Smith of The College of Idaho and Ian Logan of Corban University have been voted the 2010-11 Cascade Collegiate Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the conference office announced. Smith has earned the award for the second consecutive year.

The annual awards, voted on by the CCC’s athletic directors, are presented to one male and one female who have distinguished themselves on the field of play and in the classroom during the academic year.

Holt Named All-American in 800-Meters

Hillary Holt broke her own school record in the 800-meters, earning NAIA All-America honors by placing fifth, highlighting the final day for The College of Idaho at the 2011 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Marian, Ind.

The freshman, who placed tenth earlier in the day in the 1,500-meters (4:37.98), was in a tight pack for 2nd through 5th place, with her time of 2:10.77 just one-tenth of a second away from fourth.  Holt's efforts helped the Lady Yotes place 43rd overall in the meet.

Holt Breaks 800-Meter School Record at NAIA Nationals

Hillary Holt smashed the school record in the 800-meters, one of three College of Idaho competitors advancing to tomorrow's finals at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Marian, Ind.

Holt, a freshman from Boise, placed second in her heat, logging a time of 2:11.35 - easily advancing to tomorrow's final.  Also headed to the finals are Paul Sartin and Greg Montgomery, who each moved on in the 5,000-meters - a day after both recorded Top-10 finishes in the 10,000-meter final.
