Play Reading Series

Kabuki Lady Macbeth

The College of Idaho Department of Theatre & Speech Arts is set to present the inaugural C of I Play Reading Series, a sequence of four performances in which the actors read the dialogue in the script without the elements of scenery, costume or lighting. The series kicks off Jan. 24 with Poona the F*** Dog and Other Plays for Children (NOT a play for children), written by Jeff Goode and directed by Joe Golden, chair of the C of I theatre department. All readings in the series will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Langroise Studio Theatre. There is a “pay what you wish” admission, with proceeds funding theatre department travel to the 2012 Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival conference.

The C of I Play Reading Series will present one play per month through April. Shows include Kabuki Lady Macbeth, written by Karen Sunde and directed by C of I theatre professor Michael Hartwell, on Feb. 28; August: Osage County, written by Tracy Letts and directed by C of I admission counselor and theatre instructor Will Fowler, on March 23; and The Water Engine, written by David Mamet and directed by C of I adjunct lighting designer Deborah Hartwell, on April 17. Each of the shows will feature a cast of current C of I students as well as theatre department alumni currently working in the Treasure Valley.
