About
the Seattle Mime Theatre... The
Seattle Mime Theatre was formed in 1977. Fresh from our
training experiences as actors, dancers and mimes, we were
eager to form a company, explore our skills and energies,
and see how we could invent a peculiarly American version
of mime. We had a head start from our work with Tony
Montanaro, developing a style less precious, less
idiosyncratic than the popular French model of that time.
Thus, in an SMT performance, you will see relatively
naturalistic movement, performers wearing neutral face
make-up only, who often speak from the stage rather than
adhere to a formal silence. The
variety of style and content among the pieces in this
program reflects the diversity of our interest as artists.
Audiences throughout the United States, as well as in
Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and
Singapore, have enjoyed this repertory performance. We are
delighted to have the opportunity to bring it to you. Biographies of those who will be appearing in the show... Richard Davidson, SMT
Artistic Director, is a founding member of the company.
Tony Montanaro and Jacques Lecoq have influenced
Rick’s work. He has toured with SMT throughout the
U.S. and Asia, teaching and performing. He has also
worked with The Radost Folk Ensemble, Wade Madsen, The
Pat Graney Company and The Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Bruce Wylie, SMT Artistic
Director, is also a founding member of the company. He
has created innumerable works during the past 20 years,
relishing opportunities as performer, writer, director,
choreographer, mask maker, lighting and set
designer/builder. In recent years he has created several
large-cast ensemble works, including, as co-director,
Seattle’s Annex Theater’s production, The Ebenezer
Cycle. In addition to his career with SMT, Bruce has
taught and performed across the United States, Asia, and
Great Britain. Apollonia Koleis, SMT
Artistic Associate) studied theater at Cornish College
of the Arts from 1997 – 2000. She also studied
Biomechanics, a form of physical theatre, with Gennady
Bogdanov, first in Seattle and then in Moscow. Apollonia
has appeared in many stage productions and is currently
an aspiring circus artist. Sonya Walker, SMT Stage Manager, has performed, managed, and generally loitered in many theaters around the northwest. This past year she has dedicated herself to creating miracles at Seattle’s Annex Theater. Visit the Seattle Mime Theatre's, Home Page. . |
