2008-2009 Season Calendar

Below is a complete listing of the 2008-2009 season of Caldwell Fine Arts. All performances are at 7:30 pm in Jewett Auditorium, unless otherwise noted.


September 13 (Saturday)

>  “Up with People” Reunion Tour    MORE
Founders Steve, Paul, and Ralph Colwell and keyboard/xylophone virtuoso Herb Allen renew the music which bridged cultural differences in the 60s-80s.

September 19  (Friday)

>  The Mystical Arts of Tibet Sacred Music and Dance     MORE
Experience multiphonic chanting, music, and dance. The ancient rhythms and colorful, intricate costumes delight audiences of all ages. A Mandala Sand Painting will be constructed over a period of 19 hours in the Langroise Fine Arts Building Foyer.  

October 14  (Tuesday)

>  Big Band Swing Design     MORE
This Netherlands-based band draws its musicians from Europe, but their music is straight from America’s Swing Era. Nineteen players perform favorite selections by Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, and Harry James bands. 

October 29  (Wednesday) 

>  Repertory Dance Theatre    MORE
TIME CAPSULE: A Century of Dance is an informative multi-media retrospective which pays homage to the ingenuity, creativity and inventive spirit of America’s legendary 20th century choreographers.

November 17  (Monday)

 Idaho Showcase    MORE
An Idaho Showcase features Rhonda Bradetich, Flute, from Sandpoint & Leslie Stratton Norris, Harp, from Coeur d'Alene and also concertmaster Seth Mattison and The College of Idaho Sinfonia.

December 6-7 (Saturday and Sunday)
(3 p.m. matinees only)

>  Eugene Ballet Nutcracker     MORE
Continue a family tradition – or start one this year with one of these performances. Young dancers have the opportunity to progress from wee mice to party children in this enduring classic with choreography by Toni Pimble.
 

January 23 (Friday)

>  An Dochas and Haran Irish Dancers     MORE 
The young band incorporates traditional Irish instruments and explosive step dancing with the energy of rock creating a dynamic performance.

February 20-21 
(Friday, 7:30 pm; Saturday at 3:00 pm)

>  Missoula Children's Theater Pinocchio     MORE 
Deep in the salty waters of the Sassafras Sea there lived a Little Mermaid. Her name was Celia. She lived for music. Missoula Children’s Theatre performances have delighted and amazed audiences for nearly four decades.

March 3 (Tuesday)

>  Alexander Ghindin     MORE
Cleveland International Piano Competition Winner 
The 2007 Cleveland International Piano Competition Winner, has power and speed and the heart of a lyrical master. Caldwell Fine Arts has enjoyed outstanding pianists from this competition since 2001.

April 11 (Saturday) 

>  Boise Baroque Orchestra, Chorus, and Soloists     MORE
The group performs Bach’s St. John Passion, one of his most acclaimed masterpieces. Dan Stern leads professional players who enjoy playing in an ensemble of 25-30 players. The musicians are area professionals, many of whom perform with the Boise Philharmonic, the Boise Master Chorale, and Opera Idaho.


May 19
(Tuesday)

>  BYU Chamber Orchestra     MORE 
 Led by conductor Kory Katseanes, the Chamber Orchestra is the most select of the five orchestras in the School of Music and the most widely traveled university orchestra in the United States.
