Conductor Robert Franz
November 7 $14 - $18 adult;
$10 - $14 student/child In an article from the Idaho Statesman, April 13, 2008, Franz said, “The orchestra and I had so much fun. When I saw how far we went in one week, I was so excited. There is so much talent in that orchestra. My job is to focus and unleash it. There is so much potential, I can't wait to see where that takes us.” One of the places 'that takes us' is to Caldwell, which in its history has frequently presented the Philharmonic. Now in his 2nd season, Maestro Franz offers this ensemble of musicians to a wider audience in Canyon County. They will enjoy the lively acoustics of Jewett Auditorium. Previous artists have said, “It’s like the best halls of Europe.” The international program includes a German, American, and French composer with the Beethoven Septet, Copland Appalachian Spring, in its original version, and Ibert Divertissment. The players are principal instrumentalists in the orchestra. The string players include members of the Langroise Trio, David Johnson and Sam Smith. Geoffrey Trabichoff, Langroise Trio violinist, is the teacher of Seth Mattison, a Nampa resident, who was a 2009 graduate of The College of Idaho. Other players flute, Jeffrey Barker The first year of concerts in Jewett Auditorium in 1962 included two orchestras. The American Symphony of Los Angeles with conductor Pattee Evenson provided the dedicatory concert followed in several months by the Boise Philharmonic with conductor Jacques Brourman and tenor Jan Peerce as soloist. The Boise Philharmonic returned the next year also. Orchestras from 1967 included the Houston Symphony with Conductor Sir John Barbirolli, the Utah Symphony 4 times with conductor Maurice Abravanel until 1971-72 when the Philharmonic conductor Jacques Brourman brought the bass-baritone soloist Georges Tozzi with the orchestra. In subsequent years, Conductor Daniel Stern directed 10 Boise Philharmonic concerts and Conductor James Ogle provided 3. The Oregon Symphony appeared in 1999 with Norman Leyden conducting a Pops Concert and 2002 with Conductor Giancarlo Guerrero. The New Mexico, Spokane, and Denver Symphonies were also well received. “The days of large touring groups traveling hundreds of miles is probably past. The opportunity to hear the Boise Philharmonic personnel in interesting repertoire is a great opportunity and value. In researching the history of Caldwell Fine Arts, it was interesting to notice that several orchestras frequently appeared in the same season, so it is appropriate this year to feature the Boise Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra on November 7 in the fall and the Boise Baroque with a violin soloist and a two-horn concerto on February 4.
