Challis Cates

Challis Cates gets to see how The College of Idaho's unique PEAK curriculum benefits him every day.

"One of the cool things about PEAK is I'm able to have two majors, but they're not distinct from each other. In a way, I find that the one really holds up the other," Cates says.

The environmental studies and political economy double major spent the summer of 2012 putting it all together during a paid internship with the Nature Conservancy.

Cates researched trail degradation on three proposed wilderness areas and trails, compiling a legal report that is now being used in a case against the National Forest Service.
