Instruction & Research Assistance for your Classes
Contact Librarian Christine Schutz if you would like to make arrangements for your class to receive instruction on library and online research methods. Students may also make appointments with a librarian for one-on-one research assistance.
library Purchase Requests
When considering items for the library's collection, we recommend searching or browsing Resources for College Libraries, a bibliography of suggested books and other resources for academic libraries. Please search the library catalog before requesting items for purchase. Requests should be made with an eye on the overall needs of the collection in your discipline. Please refer to the library's Collection Development Policy.
Please send your library purchase requests to Christine Schutz, Director of the Library.
Faculty will be informed via a system-generated email message when new materials they have requested for the library have arrived and are available for loan. New items are held for 7 days. Faculty may ask for these items at the library service desk.
Using library media in your classes
If you plan to use DVDs from the library's media collection in your courses, please contact library staff prior to the beginning of the term in which you'll be using them. We will then be able to pull the items you request (or request their return if they are checked out) and ensure that they are available when you need them. Please do not assume that the film you need will be on the shelf when you need it, the library's media collection is very popular and items are frequently checked out.
Faculty may place materials on reserve in the library for their courses. These materials are kept behind the service desk. Loan periods for reserve materials are set by faculty. The following loan periods are available for course reserves:
- 3 hours - The item does not leave the library.
- 1 day
- 3 days
- 1 week
- 2 weeks
No holds may be placed on reserve materials.
All reserve materials are checked out in the library computer system. Students wishing to use reserve materials will need to present their student ID card.
Overdue fines for 3-hour reserve items are $1 per hour overdue. Overdue fines for 1-day, 3-day and 1-week reserve items are $1 per day overdue.
Faculty may submit course reserve requests in the library. They will be asked to complete a short form.
Contact Dayle Winbigler with any questions regarding Course Reserves.
Faculty Loan Policies
Items from the library's collections are loaned to faculty for 180 days (6 months).
Library items will be recalled from faculty (via a system-generated email message) if requested by another library user. Faculty are asked to return recalled items as quickly as possible.
Interlibrary loan periods are set by the lending library and are usually 28 days.
