More than 300 people attend CofI Scholarship Gala
The 2007 Albertson College of Idaho Scholarship Gala 'Schoolhouse Rock' brought approximately 320 people to campus on Saturday, March 17 to eat delicious food, participate in silent, live and reverse auctions, and dance the night away, all while raising money for CofI scholarships.
The final tally for how much money was raised isn't known yet, but CofI President Bob Hoover said he was pleased by the participation.
'More than 97 percent of our students receive scholarship money and many would not be able to attend Albertson College of Idaho without it,' Hoover said. 'This is one of the College's most important scholarship fundraisers.'
Rudy Rossi, husband of women's basketball coach Reagan Rossi, won the raffle trip to Cabo San Lucas. The trip includes a weeklong stay in a six-star villa for eight people and is valued at $14,000.
The Scholarship Gala featured a gourmet menu developed by Bon Appetit Executive Chef Matt Caldwell. Dishes included Truffle Macaroni and Cheese, Mini Beef Wellingtons and Pretzel Crusted Crab Cakes. Boyd Henry receives Mathematics Teacher award
CofI Emeritus Professor Boyd Henry has been given the Oregon Council of Teachers of Mathematics Area Recognition Award for his leadership and service in mathematics education.
Henry was recognized for establishing a resource center called MASTER (Math and Science Teacher Educational Resources), which provides teachers the opportunity to borrow resources for their classrooms. Henry also visits schools for student presentations and staff development.
In the letter announcing the award, Winnie Miller, president of the Oregon Council of Teachers of Mathematics, said 'Countless teachers who once identified themselves as math phobic have benefited from Boyd's gentle teaching and dry sense of humor.'
Crimes of the Heart coming to CofI this month
The CofI Theatre Department presents 'Crimes of the Heart,' the Pulitzer Prize winning play by Beth Henley, in the Langroise Studio Theatre on March 22-24 and March 28-31 at 7:30 p.m.
There is a matinee on April 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and non-ACI students. ACI students are admitted free. The Langroise box office phone is 459-5426.
Beth Henley's masterpiece depicts a family in crisis with plenty of comedy and heartfelt tenderness.
The McGrath sisters find themselves back together in their Hazelhurst, Mississippi home after five years apart because the youngest sister, Babe, has shot her husband because she didn't like his looks.
As the family fights for Babe's life, old resentments, sibling rivalries, past romances, and new dramas crop up to make everything wonderfully complicated.
The play is directed by Joe Golden with scenic design by Michael Hartwell, costume design by Heidi Golden, lighting by Deborah Penrod. Stage management is by Chris Ullery, Amber Steele, and Caitlin Kreuger.† The cast includes Alyssa Martin, Justine Bushey, Hongmey Zhen, Amanda Richey, David Ketchum, and Brent Huston.

ACI Philanthropy Council accepting grant requests
The Student Philanthropy Council at CofI is accepting applications to give away $30,000 in grants to Treasure Valley non-profit organizations.
Last year, the philanthropy council awarded grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to five different non-profit organizations, including the gang-prevention program The Original Gangster's Basic Academy of Delinquency, and the Canyon Agricultural Foundation for Education.
All non-profit organizations that emphasize service to the community are encouraged to apply for an award. Applicants from last year are also welcome to submit applications to the Philanthropy Council.
All awards from the Student Philanthropy Council are one-time awards and do not require any matching funds.
The council was formed in January 2006, after the College received a grant from the Seagraves Family Foundation to promote philanthropy on campus.
Following last year's success, the Seagraves Family Foundation renewed the grant to the College.
'The Student Philanthropy Council provides us a unique opportunity to give back to the community,' CofI junior Matt Weaver said. 'As students at a private college we are so lucky to be on the receiving end of a great deal of philanthropy. It is very rewarding to have the opportunity to give back.'

Kappa Sigma Fraternity hosts Toast to CofI on April 18
The Kappa Sigma Fraternity will host the 5th annual Toast to ACI on Wednesday, April 18 at 8 p.m. in the Langroise Foyer. This year's confirmed guest speaker is Idaho Governor C.L. 'Butch' Otter, a College of Idaho alum.
The event has been held every year since the budget crisis in 2003, at a time when campus morale was low, as a token of appreciation by CofI students†to the College.††The toast, traditionally made by the college president, is given toward the bright future of Albertson College of Idaho.
Refreshments will be served and there will be entertainment. Admission is free, but donations toward scholarships will be accepted.

Archaeological Society makes donation to Museum
The Great Basin Chapter of the Idaho Archaeological Society has recently made a cash donation of $1,000 to the Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History at ACI.†
'The Museum has been so gracious to host our Chapter over the years that we think it fitting to show this support,' said Idaho Archaeological Society President Kathy Hamlett.
Museum Director William H. Clark said the funds would be used to purchase much-needed materials and supplies for the Archaeology Division of the Museum.
