C of I caps $175M Advance the Legacy campaign

The College of Idaho is pleased to announce the successful completion of its Advance the Legacy campaign, a comprehensive, $175 million effort that began in 2007. The target date was 2016 in collaboration with the school’s 125th anniversary, but the C of I officially passed the $175 million mark this spring, allowing President Marv Henberg to celebrate the achievement before his June retirement.

The College formally announced the close of the campaign during a May 14 ceremony on the steps of Sterry Hall—the same place where then-President Bob Hoover kicked off the campaign in July 2007.

“I’m humbled beyond words to see the Advance the Legacy campaign reach its successful conclusion,” Henberg said. “Beyond being an incredible achievement for the College, this campaign is a testament to the belief our alumni and supporters have in this place. They give because The College of Idaho has a special place in their hearts, and because they believe in our future and educational mission. I’m awed by their generosity.”  

Thousands of donations combined to make the campaign a success. Among its highlights were remodeling Boone Science Hall, endowing the Howard Berger-Ray Neilsen Chair in Judaic Studies, constructing the new Marty Holly Athletics Center, launching a new master’s program in physician assistant studies, building Wolfe Field Baseball Stadium and endowing a multitude of new lectureships, faculty chairs and student scholarships. In the nearly nine years since the campaign launched, alumni giving has climbed from 21 percent to a school-record 37 percent, which ranks No. 2 in the Pacific Northwest.

“When I think back to the start of the campaign, $175 million is just an enormous number,” said Michael Vandervelden, vice president for college relations. “A campaign of this magnitude doesn’t succeed by accident. Our development team has done a phenomenal job, and the entire C of I community has answered the call. It’s truly incredible to cross the finish line together, and to complete the campaign ahead of schedule—I couldn’t be more proud of our team.”

The College of Idaho’s next major fundraising campaign has not yet been announced. It will be unveiled at a date to be determined under the direction of President-Elect Dr. Charlotte Borst, who takes office in June.
