C of I Vocal Jazz Ensemble to perform in European Jazz Festival

2008. 03. 18.

CALDWELL The College of Idaho's Vocal Jazz Ensemble, led by associate professor Marianne Saunders, will be in Europe March 19-28 for a European Jazz Festival hosted by the mayors of Vienna and Salzburg, Austria.

Ten students from The C of I and ten chaperones will make the trip, which includes Vienna and Salzburg, Austria, and Prague, Czech Republic. This is the first year the mayors, who are big fans of American jazz, have hosted the festival.

The festival is by invitation only, and The C of I Vocal Jazz Ensemble was recommended by organizations who have heard the group perform, including during the prestigious Annual Vocal Jazz Festival at Carnegie Hall, where the ensemble performed in 2002 and 2004.

The trip is largely funded through a generous grant from the Langroise Fund, managed by the Idaho Community Foundation.

C of I students Ryan Dean, Brian Dearing, Katie Fendrick, Jessica Hansen, Noah Jensen, Scott Lake, Jessica Price, Byron Richins, Roshan Roghani and C. J. Watson are making the trip.

It is an honor to be invited to participate in this festival and I am proud to represent Idaho and The College of Idaho with this talented group, Saunders said.
