Museum Hosts 2006 Fossil Fish Workshop and Field Trip

CALDWELL (Idaho)- The Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History invites you to try your hand at being an archeologist at the 2006 Fossil Fish Workshop and Field Trip.
The workshops will be held on Friday 12 at the Smith Museum in Boone Hall on the Albertson College of Idaho campus. The morning session will last from 8:00 to 12:00, and the same workshop will be repeated from 1:00 to 5:00. Workshop participants will hear a lecture about fish fossils common to the Snake River plain, participate in a discussion, and practice fossil identification.
On Saturday May 13, there will be a field trip into the Owyhee Mountains to look for and identify fossils in the field. The trip departs from the museum at 8:00 and returns at 6:00.
The instructor for the workshops and the field trip is Dr. Gerald R. Smith, Museum Fossil Fish Curator for the Orma J. Smith Museum and Curator Emeritus of Fishes for the Museum of Zoology at the University of Michigan.
The costs for the events are $25 per person for the workshop and $25 per person for the field trip. A registration form, schedule, and driving directions can be found on the museum's website.
