Howlin' Yotes lead Northwest Conference in speech awards

The College of Idaho Howlin' Yotes speech & debate team took second place at the Steve Hunt Classic, last weekend at Lewis and Clark College in Portland. C of I now leads the entire Northwest Conference in speech awards. The Howlin' Yotes stepped up to Division One this season after winning 10 Northwest Conference Division Two Championships in 13 years.

At the Steve Hunt Classic, the Yotes won 22 speech awards and scored 116 points – both school records. Junior Amanda Frickle and Sophomore Tyler Hatch lead the team with three speech awards each. Freshman Carol Phillips took first place in Impromptu Speaking, the Yotes' only individual victory.

In Junior Debate, the teams of Frickle/Ben Losinski and Carol Phillips/Tyler Guryan each took third place for C of I. Freshman Damien Burbine and Sophomore Alexis Bennett took fourth place in Novice Debate.
