ACI SIFE Team Named Regional Champions in Duel in the Rockies
2006. 02. 03.
The Albertson College SIFE team (Students in Free Enterprise) was named First Place winner of the Duel in the Rockies held on January 19-21 at University of Utah in Salt Lake City. They will now advance to the national Duel in the Desert in Tucson on March 2-5, 2006 at the University of Arizona. The winning team consisted of Alise Lindquist, Brynnin Erickson, Sheridan Hodson, and Jon Bunten, taking first place and a cash award of $2500.
The competition judges ranged from finance professionals to insurance executives who agreed that the preparation and presentation of the financial case was virtually 'flawless.' The judges complimented CofI on the creativity and skill of their presentation, commenting that the team 'hands down, without question, was the clear winner of this competition.' CofI will join winning teams from other regional competitions at the National competition in Tucson to vie for cash prizes of over $5,000.
Duel in the Desert is a national personal financial case study competition funded by Take Charge America, a non-profit national consumer credit counseling company. Teams are given hypothetical case studies about a family in financial distress. In 36 hours, competitors must research the situation and design a reasonable, workable, and creative solution to the dilemma based on the family's situation, economics, geography, and resources. They must present their results to panels of expert judges who decide which SIFE team has best resolved the family's finances.
Jonathan Bunten is President of CofI SIFE. Kristina Mazurak is faculty SIFE advisor.
