Summer

From One Nest to Another

Here we are again: next verse, same as the first, except that this verse feels more like a bridge leading to an epic guitar solo that dives into the chorus that everyone sings along with even if they can't decide on the right key. Tomorrow is move-in day for my final year at the College of Idaho, and it's finally time for this Retail Robin to pick up all his twigs and leaves and fly them over to Caldwell for one extremely final time.

In Flux

Around this time last year, the end of summer seemed to be ending on solid ground. My future was comfortably set in stone; no last minute changes of plan were on any horizon. I had my books, I had many of my things packed, I knew when I would be moving back to campus and who I would see when I got there, and I even had a good, end of summer hangout session planned with my closest local friends. But this year, with only a couple more weeks before fall classes start, I feel like I'm in a state of flux.

Holy Summer, Batman! ...And a Whole Lot of What I Miss Today

I have finally caught up with summer--it got away from me for a second there!

My typical summer day went as follows:

Three Guys, One Motor and Some Magic

Stop me if you've heard this one before--a guy walks itno a bar. He gazes at the various patrons and demands to know one thing: "Who's the strongest in here?" A very muscular, bearded gentleman immediately rises from his lofty bar stool and bellows "I am the strongest one in here!" The first guy looks to the other man and says "Oh, great. Could you help me push my car to the nearest gas station?"

What I Miss Today... Greek Life!

My name is Mariah Schlepp, and I am a Pinterest addict.  I am also a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and Pinterest is one of my first go-to places for fun ideas to bring to chapter and recruitment.  Today I was getting all excited for fall recruitment and went on a pinning spree in search of good ideas; after spending more time in front of my computer than I would care to admit, it occurred to me just how much I miss my sisters.

Top 5 Best Things About Being Home This Summer

Don't get me wrong. As much as I love living the campus life at C of I, being back home in Meridian for the past few months has been quite the delightful break. No early morning classes to worry about, no homework, being able to see my family every day--these are perks I wasn't able to get all the time during my freshman year. And with the start of classes looming over us in just a few more weeks, I figure now's as good a time as any to count my home life blessings.

So, without further ado, here are my Top 5 Best Things About Being Home This Summer.

What I Miss Today...The Countdown Begins!

At 10:08 on the morning of August 6th I recieved a text message...which took a not-so-close second to my pillow as I pressed "Ignore" and rolled back into my pillow for another hour or so of sleep on my day off.

Coasting

So, my summer is a little different compared to the last two years. My mom just finished moving from Boise out to Caldwell. Aside from school, I've lived in Boise since I was 2 years old. I'm currently paying rent at my Fraternity house, and now more than ever, I really feel that Caldwell is my home.

Once a Thespian, Always a Thespian

The C of I theatre department has became a second family to me. I encountered an abundance of spectacular opportunities within the department, including the opportunity to attend the weeklong Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival. Not ready to put my theatrical duties on the shelf for summer vacation, I have returned to the Sixth Street Theatre stage for my third summer season.
