The Sound of Music

Music has always been a big part of my life. I’ve been singing practically since I could talk, and I play the piano as well. Music has always been an escape for me, a way to express my feelings, a stress reliever. So I am extremely happy that I get to be a part of the wonderful Chorale here at C of I.

In Which I Contemplate My Future

Sorry for not having posted in a while, readers! A combination of midterms, major papers, and choir concert preparation left me with little to write about other than how stressed I was feeling, and putting it down into words probably would have just reinforced that stress. But now it's Fall Break, a time of respite from all the tests, readings and extra activities, and a time to sit back and unwind for a week without having to worry about classes.

A Blend of Many Cultures

Midterm week, as one can imagine, starts out a little rough and ends on a good note (a week-long break). I started my midterm break with a cup of tea from China. The exciting thing about taking Chinese is the fact that I am learning the language and also getting to practice some of their popular cultural activities, like brewing and drinking tea.

Storm Before the Calm

If you happen to be strolling through campus this week and you happen across the odd napping junior, crying freshman, sophomore in the fetal position, or senior in riot gear, fear not! It just happens to be mid-term week and such sights are normal, if not expected.

I have two papers due this week, three tests to study for, a poem to write, and some Shakespeare sonnets to dissect. Simply put, readers, please do not let my calm exterior fool you. Internally, I am a veritable “crazy hot mess” soup on the verge of boiling over.

What's in the Bag?

Meet my constant companion: the Shoe Bag. I spend more time with this bag than any one person in my life. It goes everywhere I go. I’m probably most identifiable on campus as that person who carries a bag with a giant retro Nike shoe on it. I can’t not carry the shoe bag, even when it makes for some pretty weird outfits. For instance, I am currently wearing a wool pencil skirt, grey silk blouse, and a knee length black dress coat. But the Shoe Bag still gets to come along because it’s so unbelievably functional.

C of I Am Special

Ever since I have been at the C of I, I have felt a sense of prestige, and I like figuring things out so I took some time to figure out what it is that makes the college so special.

Wacky, Wonderful Weekend

Wow, a lot happened this weekend. I was really busy, and probably didn’t do as much homework as I should’ve, but it was still epic.

Coyotes in the Outfield (and Other Such Adventures)

No accomplishment can compare to that of a Saturday well spent.

Saturdays, I put aside all books and assignments, forget to-do lists, and banish learning and all other scholarly activities. Those are all things to worry about some other time…like Sunday.  I had a fantastic Saturday, so, readers, join me as I take a walk down memory lane remembering all the wonderful times I had less than 48 hours ago. Ah, yes, the good ol’ days.

A lot on my plate

A month into school and I'm surviving. Well, honestly I am more than surviving, I'm loving it. I've made some great friends already and my classes are great.

I love the fact that there is no excuse for being unprepaired other than not managing your time. I also like how pretty much everything I have to do is in a 500-yard radius. It makes it seem like I can do a lot more in my day because I don't have to drive across town for every activity I do. I miss my family quite a bit, but I'm staying busy enough to keep from beeing homesick.

Homecoming Shenanigans

I never got much into Homecoming activities back when I was in high school. Back then, all of it felt so artificial, what with all the ridiculous themes that felt like they were pulled from a hat of dumb ideas, predictable popularity contests, and pep rallies the student body was forced to attend. Of course, college is different from high school in a great variety of ways, and Homecoming is no exception. And I might be a tiny bit biased in my assessment, but I think College of Idaho does Homecoming better than anywhere else.
