The College of Idaho Department of Theatre and Speech Arts is proud to present its fall theatre production The Hot L Baltimore, a dramatic comedy by the late American playwright Lanford Wilson. The play will show at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3-5 and Nov. 9-12 inside the Langroise Studio Theatre on the C of I campus in Caldwell. There is a 2 p.m. matinee show on Sunday, Nov. 13. Whew! I'm glad that’s over. You know what I’m talking about: Midterm week. That was intense! Yes, I am sure many of my fellow bloggers have stated otherwise (no offense to them; I love them dearly), but I am a dramatic freshman; and for me it was a very intense, stressful, midterm week.

For 20 years, graduates of Caldwell High School such as Kristen VanSchoiack have received a head start in pursuing their aspirations at The College of Idaho with the support of the Caldwell Foundation for Educational Opportunity.VanSchoiack, a freshman art major, and 20 other currently enrolled C of I students are recipients of CFEO scholarships, beneficiaries of a partnership that helps many of Caldwell’s most outstanding young people continue their education in the community where they were raised.

Award-winning author and social psychologist Dr. David Myers will visit The College of Idaho campus as a guest lecturer at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, inside the Langroise Auditorium. Myers’ lecture, “The Scientific Pursuit of Happiness,” is part of a Treasure Valley lecture series developed by C of I psychology professor Dr. Meredith Minear in collaboration with Dr. Eric Landrum at Boise State University and Dr. Benjamin Earwicker at Northwest Nazarene University.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, the Canyon County Domestic Violence Task Force and The College of Idaho have collaborated to create “Why Hope?” a public awareness event that focuses on the journey victims of violence take as they move toward hope and happiness.  The event is set for Oct. 14 and 15 inside the Langroise Center for the Performing and Fine Arts on the C of I campus in Caldwell.

Literally. Not only is it Human vs Zombies week here at The College of Idaho, but it is also flu season. It is kind of like the game Humans vs Zombies, someone starts off with the disease and once that person touches someone else it starts to spread. It’s a little more technical than that, but you get my point.

I’m in college. A conversation with two or more people can’t last too long without it eventually turning towards Jimmy Stewart or Harry Potter.

I read the series. I’m familiar with all the Potter lore. I hated the movies. People (girls) rag on me all the time about this. I hate them. But the great thing about talking about these teenage wizards is that it’s easy to draw a lot of lines between the fantasy of Hogwarts and our campus.

I AM A PROCRASTINATOR! There I said it! Happy!? No need to keep it bottled up inside anymore. I have been a procrastinator since I was in elementary school. The thing is though, I thought I learned my lesson since then. I told myself not to be involved in too many things this year and that way there would be no way I could get behind! WRONG! It sucks that I cannot join a sorority, or choir, or martial arts, or Model UN, or any other really epic thing that campus offers but I simply do not have time.

So many letters, so many colors, so many girls! That’s right, rush week is here, meaning formal recruitment for the sororities on (and off) campus is in full bloom…

This is my first formal recruitment within Kappa Alpha Theta, and I cannot help but absolutely love it.  It gives me a great opportunity to spend time with all of my ‘sisters’, as well as meet a big pack of freshmen, plus a sprinkle of sophomores and juniors.

The College of Idaho celebrates Homecoming 2011 with a full schedule of events this week for students, alumni and friends. This year’s Homecoming features a special focus on science, as the College celebrates its outstanding tradition in the sciences and alumni who studied in Boone Science Hall. Festivities begin with the C of I Athletic Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday and wrap up with C of I alumni night at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, set for 6 p.m. Sunday in Boise.
