Former C of I player Garsez joins Boise Hawks

Former College of Idaho baseball player Izaac Garsez has been called up to play for the Boise Hawks. The Hawks, in conjunction with their parent club, the Chicago Cubs, announced the move prior to their July 17 home game versus the Yakima Bears. Garsez, an outfielder, was promoted to replace Bijan Rademacher, who was promoted to the Peoria Chiefs. Garsez is expected to be in the starting lineup on Tuesday night.

College raises more than $5 million for 2012 fiscal year

Alumni and friends of The College of Idaho have once again shown powerful support for the school and its commitment to providing an outstanding liberal arts education that prepares students to thrive. For the 2012 fiscal year, which ended June 30, the College raised more than $5.3 million, enjoyed a sizable increase in alumni fundraising and matched the 36 percent alumni giving record established in 2011.

C of I hires two directors in College Relations

The College of Idaho has hired successful fundraiser Jack Cafferty and long-time educator Sally Skinner as director of development and director of alumni and parent relations, respectively.

The College of Idaho loses a legend

The College of Idaho lost one of its most beloved alumni when R.C. Owens passed away June 17. Owens was a pioneering star athlete at the College who went on to NFL fame with the San Francisco 49ers. He was 78 years old.

Working in outer space is a dream shared by many and realized by a very hard working and fortunate few. This summer, recent College of Idaho graduate Trisha Randazzo '12 is taking a big step toward achieving her ultimate goal.

C of I alumnus scales Mount Everest

The College of Idaho encourages its students to climb higher and do more. This spring, alumnus Samuel Elias (Class of 2004) is climbing to extreme heights as part of a National Geographic expedition that will reach the summit of Mount Everest this week, likely Thursday.  

Elias is a professional climber who has scaled some of the world’s most daunting and exhilarating peaks. As a student at The College of Idaho, Elias studied art and biology while pursuing his passion for the mountains as a member of the Coyote ski and snowboard team. Elias is a native of Detroit, Mich. 

C of I alumna fights against relationship violence

College of Idaho alumna Pamela Cathey '04 has dedicated her life and career to preventing violence. As the founder and CEO of A Frog in the Pot at C of I as well as the Institute for the Prevention of Relationship Violence at Buena Vista University in Iowa, Cathey works hard to create awareness of an issue that is prevalent in society, yet often goes overlooked or undetected.

Bitner Vineyards to host ‘Bud to Blossom’ fundraiser

Bitner Vineyards in Caldwell is set to host the inaugural “Bud to Blossom” event, a celebration aimed at raising funds for The College of Idaho’s Taste of the Harvest Scholarship. “Bud to Blossom” will be held from noon to 5 p.m. May 5 at Bitner Vineyards, located at 16645 Plum Road in Caldwell. Adult tickets may be purchased for $20 in advance at http://growlocalusa.com or for $25 at the door.

C of I set for Homecoming festivities

The College of Idaho celebrates Homecoming 2011 with a full schedule of events this week for students, alumni and friends. This year’s Homecoming features a special focus on science, as the College celebrates its outstanding tradition in the sciences and alumni who studied in Boone Science Hall. Festivities begin with the C of I Athletic Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday and wrap up with C of I alumni night at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, set for 6 p.m. Sunday in Boise. Here are some of the week’s highlights:
