The College of Idaho is set to host the first lecture of the recently established Carter-Chalker Lectureship on Faith and Contemporary Issues as “Through Many Windows:  A Colloquium on Religion” comes to the C of I campus in Caldwell. The colloquium will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in Langroise Auditorium, shortly after C of I President Marv Henberg gives his annual “State of the College” address. Admission is free and open to the public.

The College of Idaho will host a guest speaker as part of the Treasure Valley Psychology Lecture Series for the second consecutive year when University of Illinois professor Art Kramer presents “Take a Hike: Physical Activity, Cognition and Brain Function” at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, inside Langroise Auditorium on the C of I campus in Caldwell. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Immigration is the focus of the latest edition of College of Idaho Insights, with three professors discussing their recent research and classes dealing with a variety of issues connected to migration.

The College of Idaho will host its 7th annual Student Research Conference on Saturday, April 21 in the Langroise Center on the C of I campus in Caldwell. The conference, which runs from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., serves as an open house of student academic achievement, providing an opportunity for the campus and the community to view the accomplishments of students from a variety of disciplines in one place.

The College of Idaho has received a $512,043 gift from the estate of the late William J. Carter, a grandson of founding C of I President William Judson Boone. Carter, who passed away in 2011, left his estate to the John O. and Sara Boone Carter Family Scholarship, an endowed fund set up to honor his parents and support students who are in need of financial assistance to complete their educations. The gift makes the Carter Family Scholarship the largest endowed scholarship fund at The College of Idaho.

College of Idaho junior Tyler Hatch has a passion for public policy and effecting social change.

As a 2012 Truman Scholar – one of 60 students in the nation selected for the prestigious award – Hatch hopes to draw on that passion to help protect the rights of students in America’s public schools.

The College of Idaho has long enjoyed a tradition of excellence in the sciences. The commitment to studying nature began with founder William Judson Boone and continues today through collaborative faculty-student research and hundreds of alumni enjoying careers in scientific fields.

The College of Idaho congratulates the 190 students who made the Dean’s List for the 2011 Fall Semester. To receive Dean's List recognition, a student must complete at least nine graded credits and achieve a GPA of 3.75 or higher for that semester. Questions about the value of higher education aren’t new. In the middle of the 20th century, young people could regularly step into a well-paying factory job as soon as they graduated from high school. “What will I gain financially from a college education?” that generation often asked.

College of Idaho professor Robert Dayley is the winner of the 2011 Idaho Professor of the Year award, announced Nov. 17 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Dayley, who teaches political economy and specializes in Asian studies, is the fourth C of I professor in six years to receive the award, which recognizes the state’s top educator based on scholarly achievement, innovative teaching, community and professional service, and recommendations from colleagues, alumni and students.
