A lot of people fear the power of online social networks, the pervasiveness of their existence and the level of intrusion into their lives. The jury is still out on a lot of the implications that arise from this new phenomena of our culture, and I’m still not sure how I feel about a lot of what’s happening within this mostly unexplored frontier.

It’s so close; I can smell it! College! The dorm life, the awesome campus events, the life changing classes; I cannot wait for this experience to begin! The countdown is beginning to come to an end, and by the end of this week, I will be making my next post as a college student. However, no matter how excited I am, I am still extremely stressed. So, because I hope this doesn’t happen to any other incoming freshman, here are some tips on what to do once school starts to sneak up on you.

I know that many students come to our campus while having a decent idea about how it looks like, and where the nice hang-out spots are at. But since approximately 10% of our students are international, they rarely develop such solid view of our beautiful campus.

Let’s get real here – summer went by real quick.

Here I am, with a few short days left, struggling to make them count, grasping at any opportunity to allow the feeling of home to sink down deep, where I can keep it until I come back for Christmas.

As I wrote last week, there is so much that I am really  looking forward to – however, now all I can think about are the things that I’m really going to miss.

From my experiences, a lot of college education is an exercise in common sense. If you fail to wake up in the morning, neglect your homework or disparage your sleeping schedule, you’re playing some tough odds in trying to keep some semblance of decent grades.

It’s simple enough right? Wake up, commute to appropriate/obligated location, perform required tasks. Kind of important in a work-environment, or so I’m told.

Just got wind of some good news… I get to jack my dad’s bike for the school year!  As I return for round two at The College of Idaho, I am going to take advantage of the dreamy, flat terrain of Southwest Idaho. Last year I would start my morning jogging a couple blocks to the public library, or to the YMCA.… In my home town, a breezy jog or bike ride is rather unheard of (for each street is infamous for a hill, mountain slope, or valley that would make even Lance Armstrong shiver).

Summer is such a time warp. I swear it was just last week I was hauling my wardrobe, bedding, microwave, roommate, mini-fridge, lamp, stale popcorn, towels and guitar between my freshman dorm and my chariot (a periwinkle Toyota Highlander, i.e. Heidi). And to think I have to haul all of that back to Idaho in but a MONTH?! Cut me some slack, Father Time.
