So campus is pretty empty these days. It is supposed to be so, school is over. However, there are still a few hardcore college students who soldier on and continue living in Caldwell during the break. Now, farming is lonely work, with only the plants keeping you company. So after almost a month and a half of keeping to myself, and petting rabbits and stealing the eggs my chickens lay, I decided that I would finish my self imposed exile of sorts.

Although I live on campus during the school year, in the summer I still call Boise home. Luckily, most of my friends are also from the Treasure Valley, and they stick around for the summer.  On Saturday, I met up with three of my C of I friends to stroll through Boise’s Saturday Market and to see a circus parade complete with two elephants.  

So as previously promised, here is an explanation on why I have been going off the deep end and have been posting photos of rocks and rabbits. I could just explain it in a line, or I could do it in a drawn out manner, allowing me to prove my prowess with the English language. The second method it is gonna be.

One of the things that I like about spending summer here in Caldwell is that fact that I am answerable to no one, but myself. Normally, this kind of a situation would lead to wild shenanigans and escapades that would rival those fictionalised on the silver screen. However, being a UWC (United World Colleges) alumni, and now studying here at C of I, I have pretty much lived on my own for the last four years. I like to think that I am much more sedate now, and most of my activities are more productive.

Spring Break! I don’t know about you but when I think of Spring Break I picture an entire week on the beach, an overdose of sun, and fun times with friends.  As a freshman I had this preconception that Spring Break was reserved for road trips and partying. Naturally my friends and I proceeded to plan a week-long trip to Canada. Why Canada you may ask? Well, it was close by, it was a whole new country and none of us had ever been there.  Being the naïve teenagers that we are, the cost of the trip was not really taken into much consideration.

This last weekend was a blast– not only was it the half way mark of Winter Term, but my handsome suitor was in town, and we got to explore the local scene.  Last time, we visited Lucky Peak, which was appropriate in the 90 degree weather in mid-September.  This time around, however, we hit the town.

The holidays are so unbelievably magical.

Whoa, Christmas, hold up. I’m not talking about you… I’m still reminiscing about Thanksgiving, bro.

For the first time ever, I was in Disneyland over the holiday season.  Do you know what that means?!! Main street decked from head to toe in lights and wreathes and swags of pine.  The characters sported Christmas sweaters and candy canes (although the thermometer was still pushing 75 degrees, yikes), and the speakers lining the park lofted Christmas carols throughout the entire day.

Let me be the last to fill you in. Midterms are here… Say whatttt?! Six weeks have come and left, and my oh my did that go fast.  And I thought freshman year was a blur… Luckily, us students have a week full of tests, papers, and quizzes to ground us every six weeks.  Most students are running off of large quantities of sugar, a caffeinated beverage, or sheer anxiety.  Personally, I have just recently found my fix amidst this hectic time:

Free stuff.

So, a natural part of going to a college is a general commitment to paying student fees. These funds go into accounts run both by student government and the Office of Student Affairs, where it’s used in hosting and designing activities and programs specifically for the use by the students.
